I did not realize that Letetia's descendents were also in the Oregon/Washington area. I just researched another query about Martin Clearwater and his wife Elizabeth Evans who migrated to Springfield, Oregon after the Civil War from Putnam Co. IN. Martin is a son of Letitia's half brother, David Clearwater and Mary Miller.
According to a history of our Clearwater family, "Clearwaters: 300 Years in America" by Wanda Peavey,
Jacob Clearwater's family was originally from Wales. Letitia is an English name. There is another large Clearwater family in the NY area around New Paltz who are descendents of a Dutch farmer who came to New Amsterdam on a land grant in the 1650's from Amersfort, Netherlands, Teunis van Klaarwater. They anglicized their name to Clearwater.
David and Mary had a grandson, David Wiley Clearwater (who was the son of Levi & Elizabeth Dunivan) and his wife Lovisa Catterlin, who migrated to the Salem OR area from Iowa with their 14 children. There were cousins there also by the name of Willis.

I have just looked up the name Letetia Clearwater (from our family tree) on the internet and came across your posting. All of these people that you list are also on my family tree ...so just thought I'd say hello. I have an Aunt that is a Professor of Anthropology and compiled an extensive family tree for the Frazier side of our Family (my Grandmother's maiden name)Most of my immediate Frazier relatives are from the Washington, Oregon area. The name Latetia Clearwater always stayed with me and I have been curious as to where her name originated. There is much detail in regards to the French and Scottish names, but not much on Clearwater or other names that sound Native American. Possibly you know more! And it seems the name may have been changed from from "clay" to "clear" water...an improvement indeed.

I do have Martin W. Clearwater m. Elizabeth J. Evans but I was only able to estimate their death dates from the census - they were on the 1880 census and not on the 1900 census, and their residence as being in Oregon. What kind of information are you looking for on the Clearwater family? I let my paid subscription lapse for the time being and I can't check your tree to see what you have. I am assuming you know that the New York Clearwater family is not our Clearwater family. David Clearwater was my 3rd great-grandfather.

Hi, I am out of Reuben son of Jacob, 1750-55.
My e-mail is r.clearwater.arch(a)comcast.net. If you are willing, let us exchange information. I have a very complete line from Jacob, 1750-55 to me. I knew that there are Clearwaters in Oregon. In fact, if you check all the entries on this message board you will probably find some other folks looking for Oregon Clearwater.
Cheers,

Do you have other Clearwater info. I am from David Clearwaters b c1781 NC through his son Martin Clearwaters b 1813 OH. Martin went to Oregon and seems to be lost on most people's family trees. Martin married Elizabeth Jane Evans. Their children are Mary E, Martha A, Malinda J, Drucilla W, John H, Jacob A, and Eliza I.
