Most of NY Clearwaters are descended from Teunis Jacobson Clearwater (originally van Klaarwater) who migrated to New Amsterdam from Amersfoort, Netherlands, in the 1650's on a land grant from Queen Anne of England. They settled in the New Paltz/Kingston area where they prospered. There is extensive information on this family in the History of Duchess County New York available in most genealogy libraries.

I finally had time to work on this line. William Clearwater married Carrie Smith on Jan. 27, 1906 in High Falls. High Falls is in the Town of Marbletown, Ulster County. On the marriage certificate William listed his parents as Thomas Clearwater and Mandy Silkworth. Carrie listed her parents as Isaac Smith and Anzlit Silkworth. It was the first marriage for both of them and they were both 30 years old. Both were born in High Falls. High Falls is only about 1/4 mile from the Townline of Marbletown and Rosendale. Both William and Carrie are listed with their parents in the 1880 census of Rosendale and only eight houses apart. Another post states that Amanda Silkwoth and Anzlit/Angelette Silkworth were sisters. That is not correct. Amanda is the daughter of Benjamin, Angelette is the daughter of Isaac. The ancestors of Thomas Clearwater, father of William are well known.
