It is interesting to note that in Weik's History of Putnam County, Indiana (1910, pp. 309-310), he states that the parents of Mary Emily Clearwater are John and Matilda Clearwater, and that John Clearwater was an early settler of Putnam County, a builder of the National Road, and that his (John's) parents were natives of Virginia (which parents are David Clearwater and Mary E. Miller Clearwater). I wonder where Mr. Weik got his information on the birthplace of John Clearwater's parents. Isn't the popular assumption that David Clearwater was probably born in NC and Mary E. Miller in either Maryland or Tennessee?

"Elizabeth given certificate dated 12-19-1795 to Center MM, NC. She arrived at Center MM 1-27-1796"
I have been reading the minutes of the meetings and couldn't find Elizabeth. Where was her certificate from? I have found a lot on Jacob and Hannah and some of Jacob and Elizabeth's children in the minutes, but I could find nothing on her. Also, children of Elizabeth and Jacob are for the most part shown as being born in NC (some shown as being born in Greene Co. TN) so what were they doing running back and forth between these two places so much. I can find no Armstrongs in the New Hope Meeting minutes I have located either, but I don't have access to complete minutes and I read that Center MM had some records destroyed or missing.
It seems logical that Elizabeth Clearwater (daughter of Silvester of VA) and Benjamin Clearwater could be be siblings of Jacob, as their dates fit, but of course there is no proof of that.
I also found some notes from early Perquimans MM showing Clare and Clear surnames, but I don't know if they are related, though there were some Fishers who could be related to Hannah Fisher.
I left off researching the Clearwaters for years because of all the deadends (I think my last message board post was from 2000), and haven't made much more progress since I took up the effort again. Does anyone have anything new?
