I think it is well established that the two branches of Clearwaters are not closely related.
The 1535 reference was based on my DNA that suggests that the closest connection to James Clearwater(NY)was 19 generations (1535). James lives in N.Y.State and he and I had the DNA's done a couple of years ago. The comment about the family(s)still in Holland was based on the arrival of Theunis Jacobson (Klaarwater) in 1656 to work on the Rensselaer plantation.
I hope this answers your questions. If you would like to communicate further, my e-mail is:
r.clearwater.arch(a)comcast.net
I would be happy to share with you.
Cheers,
Bob Clearwater

Robert, I too am descended from Jacob and Elizabeth through their son David and his wife Mary Miller (Mueller). I thought it was established long ago that the Clearwaters of NY and the Clearwaters of NC are not related, but I don't understand your last sentence. Are you saying there is absolutely no DNA evidence to support a link between the two families? Are you referring to the NY Clearwater family still being in the Netherlands about 1535? Could you clarify, please? I cannot contact you directly as I let my Ancestry paid membership lapse. I was almost an original member and they just keep going up and up on their prices over the years and I can no longer afford it since I finally reached social security age. :)

I am the 5th GGrandson of Jacob Clearwater and Elizabeth Armstrong. If you have data that supports the birth of this Jacob in N.Y., I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it. My DNA does not show a connection to the N.Y. Clearwater family after about 1535 which would put the entire family still in Netherlands
