Cephas Clearwater was the son of Jacob Clearwater. Check Clinton Co Ohio. Two birthdays show for Rebecca either 1808 or 1816. I am also seeking a Rebecca Clearwater that married Allen Thompson in 1860 Clinton County Ohio. I believe my Rebecca is not the sister of Cephas but a neice or daughter. I would appreciated any info you might come up with.

There are Clawater families in WS, MO, OK and TX. Who descend from William Clearwater and Sarah Carmin who moved from Ulster Co., NY to Lock Haven, PA prior to 1810. William is listed as Clawater in the Clinton County, PA census of 1810. However there is no Rebecca in that family that I know of.

There are also Clearwaters in New Brunswick under the name Clowater. They went to Canada after the Revolutionary War. A census taker screwed the name up and by the time it was discovered it was too much trouble to change back to Clearwater. There is also a Dutch spelling of Klaarwater, a German spelling of Klaarvater and even a Japanese name that translates to Clearwater. Claywater is a new one for me, but that does not mean a thing.
