Hallo,
I have discovered that my great great grandfather took a wife from Ireland and settled in Pennsylvania to start a new life. His name was Benjamin Clear and his first wife was called Sarah Purvey. His new Irish wife was called Hannah and this was a bigamous marriage! They had James, Margaret, Mary, Phoebe and Frances. Do these names ring a bell? Thsi was 1880 census Allegheny, Wesmoreland,Pennsylvania. Benjamin was 62 at this time but I don't know how accurate that is as his birth date tends to vary. I am desperate to hear from any American relatives!!!

Hi. I'm new to research but I have a story that my father loves to tell about three brother's from Ireland that come to the USA and start our family line here.
You are the first one I've seen mention Clears in Ireland. Dad thinks there is even an island (maybe a really small one) that is off the coast where his relatives may have lived.
I have a Sarah Clear in my tree but it might not be the same Sarah as yours. Did your John Patrick have siblings?
