I have researched the name Clayworth on and off for years now and have
just found the Clayworth one-name site which is good to see.
My maternal grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Clayworth, born Normanton
Spring but I've only managed to trace her ancestors through to John
Clayworth who died in Liverpool in 1849 but whose birth date can only be
guessed through census information (and ref to his father John in
marriage certs). Anyone else looking at this branch?
Hi Julie,
The John who died in 1849 is my 3rd great grandfather and is also related to
Jack Clayworth in Essex.
However, your Mary Elizabeth Clayworth is a descendant of John's son Robert
Clayworth and his first wife Sarah WALMSLEY and the line Jack descends from.
I descend from Robert and his second wife Ann Elizabeth TAGG so you are more
connected to Jack than to me.
John Clayworth who died in November 1849 was born in Newark, Notts about
1815 and married Hannah SLATER in North Wingfield, Derbyshire March 5th,
1838, they had three daughters and a son in Brampton, DBY before they moved
to Liverpool about 1844. They had three children while there Hannah in 1845,
Robert in 1847 who died 8 weeks after birth and then our Robert who was born
in March 1849.
Hannah remained in Liverpool for the 1851 census but then returned to
Brampton, DBY for the 1861 census and 1871 census. She had remarried a
Thomas Garton of Nottingham in 1859 but was a widow again in 1881 when she
was living in Sneinton, Notts. with her daughter Elizabeth, husband Frank
PASHLEY and their children and listed as Aimer Clayworth. In 1891 she was
living with another daughter Alice, her husband Joseph GOODLAD and their
children in Normanton Springs listed as Hannah GARTON.
We have not been able to find a death for Hannah yet but I don't think we
found her in 1901 so we should be able to narrow it down somewhat now.
Anyway, that was a little tidbit for you and I'll send you more off-list.
Take care
Jayne
