It's not as easy to find birth records here as in England -- no PRO!
The first place we look after the IGI and Ancestral Files is Social Security;
has that been done or do you need someone to do it?
Next we look in country-wide telephone directories, either on CD or on the
WWW. Has that been done or do you need someone to do it?
Then, the censuses. For instance, John Butler Clayworth who married my gg
Aunt Bithia and then Jane Britten had several children. I have not yet traced
any of those children, not even the only one I know is related to me, Joseph
Clayworth.
Before about 1890, no public records of births were kept, except in some
areas. (It was "local option" before then.)
There are also the Yates (and other) group sheets. Have you purchased a set
for Clayworth? I'd be glad to do so if you haven't.
We have records of births for some areas, but I looked up my grandmother Amy
Ford in Chicago births and couldn't find her, although that's where her family
was living and she's on the census. It's frustrating!

Hi Everyone,
I have just spoken to Jack and found another link that may tie up the
parentage of my John Clayworth (died Liverpool 1849) now where you come in
is to help us figure out if we are actually going in the right direction or
barking up the wrong tree.
I say this link proves John's parentage; Jack is still not sure. I won't
be offended if you agree with Jack I would just like to get to the bottom
of this.
NB: We are assuming John & Alice are John's parents. All we have to go on
is that John died in 1849 aged 34 making his birthyear 1815 (if the age of
death was correct) and on his marriage certificate his father is listed as
John. We have found no other documentation of a John being born to a John
anywhere accept the John listed here born in 1817.
Are you ready to solve the mystery? Here goes:
John Clayworth married Alice Hardy* December 3rd, 1898 in Newark, Notts.
Their children were:
John Jul 30 1799 Newark Died: Aug 2 1812
William Feb 3 1801 Ditto
George Jun 6 1803 Ditto Died?**
Samuel Oct 8 1804 Ditto
George Jun 3 1805 Ditto Zeruiah Beall (1826)***
Mary Jun 16 1807 Ditto Died: Aug 25 1812
Sarah Apr 5 1809 Ditto
Ruth Jan 17 1811 Ditto Died: Nov 21 1811
John Aug 18 1812 Ditto Died?****
Thomas Nov 14 1814 Ditto Mary Pollard (1838 - Notts)
John Sep 13 1817 Ditto Hannah Slater (1838 - Derbys.)?
The last two children are who we are concerned with for now, OK?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas married Mary Pollard and their children were:
Mary Ann Mar 1843 Leicester died Jun 1860 Leicester
Jane Mar 1846 Leicester died Mar 1848 (in Liverpool?)
Thomas Apr 14 1850 Leicester died Dec 1851 Leicester
William Ths. Mar 1852 Leicester died Jun 1859 Leicester
Sarah Jane Jun 1855 Leicester died Dec 1855 Leicester
John Mar 1857 Leicester died Dec 1858 Leicester
---------------------------------------------------------------
John married Hannah SLATER and their children were:
Alice Oct 1838 Brampton, DBYS
Sarah Dec 1839 Brampton
Elizabeth Jun 1841 Brampton
John Aug 1843 Brampton (died?)
Hannah Sep 1845 Liverpool
Robert Jun 1847 Liverpool (died 1847)
Robert Mar 1849 Liverpool (my Robert)
Joseph? 1854? Brampton
----------------------------------------------------
Jack got the death certificate of Jane (dau of Thomas & Mary) in Liverpool
aged 2. She died at 28, Cleveland Sq., Liverpool the same address as John
& Alice's son Robert was born in 1847 and Hannah was listed as the
informant.
I say this has to be that John and Thomas are brothers why else would
Thomas's daughter die at the home of John and Hannah's if she wasn't
visiting with them and all Thomas's & Mary's other children all died in
Leicester? Why would a child be visiting Liverpool from Leicester if she
wasn't visiting relatives Liverpool isn't exactly a 'hop,skip & a jump'
from Leicester is it?
To me, getting Jane's death information clinched this mystery and that John
is the son of John & Alice and the brother of Thomas.
Now it's up to you, what do you think?
Good Luck and thanks.
Jayne
These few messages should keep you going for a little while. ;-)
I have now decided to research the various spellings of the Clayworth name
which are as follows:
CLAWORTH
CLEWORTH
CLIWORTH
CLOWORTH
CLUWORTH
CLEAWORTH
CLEYWORTH
there are probably more but these are all I have for now.
I was checking out the IGI yesterday and saved to disk all the CLEWORTH's
in the IGI and the Social Security Death Index along with all the
CLAYWORTH's too. If anyone would like copy just let me know and after the
New Year I'll send you a copy, OK? It's saved in a .txt format and can be
read through your word processor.
While I was checking out the CLEWORTH's I came across the marriage of a
John CLEWORTH to Alice HARDY, these are my g-g-g-g-grandparents from
Newark. All their children are registered as CLAYWORTH's so this is
obviously a case of dialect and the way names are pronounced.
So I guess this means we need to check out all the variant spellings to
find those missing CLAYWORTH's of ours.
Anyway, must go, take care.

This is a message to our Amercian cousins.
I know now isn't a good time to be asking this with Christmas next week but
after the New Year I was wondering if it would be possible for you American
Clayworths to access the registrations of Clayworth b-m-d's for the States
that we know there are Clayworth's (California, Iowa, Illinois, New York,
Pennsylvania, Kansas, Texas) and collect them together so that we can
combine all the births, marriages and deaths with the UK ones that Jack as
collected and hopefully the NZ/Aus. ones too?
I have no knowledge of how to access American registrations so please
forgive my ignorance here but is this possible? We don't need the actual
certificates just the registration information.
Let me know what you think, OK?
Take care

Hi Everyone,
I have finally found my long-lost living Clayworth cousin (he's actually my
grandfather's nephew and my Dad's cousin).
Craig lives in Australia but was born in NZ. He just started his family
history a few years ago before his father died (Albert BANNISTER) and
contacted me by 'phone about the same time but then we lost touch. This
time I'll make sure we keep in contact. ;-)
Anyway, I have invited him to join the list and hope that he does.
Take care
Jayne
I just got three photocopies today of the information about the Clayworth's
in the Yukon Gold Rush in 1899 -1901 unfortunately they're not that legible
and so I am hvaing a hard time trying to read them.
One of them I am sure is about a Pierce M. Clayworth and the other two I
think are actually about John T. Clayworth.
Anyone have these Clayworth's in your tree?
Jayne
Hi Everyone,
I now have my photos on the website about the village of Clayworth, please
take a look and let me know if it is alright.
It's at: http://www.vaxxine.com/genrace/village.htm
Take care

HI Everyone,
Just a note to let you know that I'm back, Shane and I were shocked beyond
belief that a dear friend of ours died at the young age of 45.
Fortunately, we were able to visit with him and his family during our time
in England and we thank our lucky stars that we did.
Thanks must go to Joe for holding down the fort and for letting you know
what was happening, THANK YOU SO MUCH, Joe.
Anyway, I must go, take care,
Jayne

Jayne had to go back to England for a few days. She will be off the list
for a while. She asked me to watch it. Kinda like someone asking me to

Well ..... I'll give it a try. I figured out how to subscribe and

Wish me luck ...
