Hope I can explain this so it makes sense...
I found an internet site to day that provides both maps and satelite
images of virtually anywhere in the US and it's not at all hard to use
(and it's FREE). The site is called TerraServer and here's the basic
link to it:
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/
Outside of the fun a lot of people will have with this, I was thinking it
might have some usefulness in sharing links to views of the farms or
houses or cemeteries or towns where our ancestors are or were. Just to
give you an example, my father was born in 1921 and lived in a little
town called Matfield Green, Kansas. The town is in a remote area of the
Flint Hills in Kansas and boasts a current population of around 30 hardy
old souls. If you click on the following link, you can all see the house
my father grew up in.
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=14&x=223&y=1320&z=14&w
=1&ref=P|Matfield%20Green,%20Kansas,%20United%20States (this is the
first view you get from space... but don't dispair)
now, let me zoom in on his house (well, the immediate neighborhood
anyway)
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=10&x=3568&y=21131&z=14&
w=2
In case you're wondering, it's the house you can see just about 1/2 inch
above where it says 100M on the bottom edge of the photograph!
Don't know if people will use this, but wanted to show everyone an easy
way to share (just cut and paste the link) some different kind of
information with everyone. Best of all, you don't have to go through
airport screening now just to see the old home place.

Nancy,
This is amazing news! Lawrence and Ann are my direct descendants too! I
have lots of information on the family, beginning with Lawrence's father
(all checked at the Gloucester Record Office - I live near Gloucester).
Slight discrepancies though - the original Lawrence (Larans) born circa
1670, was married to Sara. Their son, Lawrence, married Ann Toney in
1725. I descend from their son, Richard Clayton, who was born in 1734
and married Hester Cullabine.
Both families lived around Wormington and Dumbleton - the Claytons have
memorials inside Dumbleton Church and one of the stained glass windows
in Wormington Church is dedicated to a Clayton. There are lots of
Claytons left in nearby Winchcombe today (including my mum).
Shall we swap some data? I will happily email you a report of my
findings, and would love to read your info. Out of interest, which
Clayton upped sticks to San Francisco?
Kind Regards
Abbie

Those are my Clayton's too. I have a tree going back to Lawrence born
about
1670, married toAnne in 1700. My grandfather brought it with him to San
Francisco in 1893. Most of the family stayed in Europe. Nancy Praetzel

My ancestor, William Hart (b1717-d1799) lived from approximately 1760 until his death on the PA - MD border in what is now Fulton Co, PA. Records show a Wm. Hart marrying a Jane Clayton in PA in 1758. I do know my Wm. was married to a "Jane" in 1789. Could my Jane be Jane Clayton & can anyone help shed some light on my "problem"?
Thanks & good luck to everyone,
Mike Thorne
