My Great Grand Father was Moses L. Clayton, born 27 Sept. 1821, in Princeton,
Caldwell County, Kentucky. I sure hope Nixon is not related to Moses L.
Clayton.

Harold,
Yes, the book (typescript - 42 pages), A Study of the Claytons of
Monmouth County, New Jersey by Raymond Martin Bell, 1988 addresses Lady
Diana on page 19 with a reference to Roberts and Reitwiesner's, The
Princess of Wales, 1984.

I descend from John Clayton and Alice Meyers (Myres) through their daughter Leah who married Abraham
Brown.
I was told that Richard Nixon and Lady Diane Spencer also descend from this John Clayton.
Has anyone else come across this allegation?
Thank you,

Look in the census nearest after he was born. He should be listed with his
parents.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mary, I plan to look into those things as soon
as possible. I talked with my Dad today and he remembered a few more things,
such as family names, dates of death, etc. I'm going to Dollywood with him
and the family tomorrow, so I'll probably pick his brain some more. Thanks.

It would help to know the city, county and state your grandfather was born in

My Ancestor Susannah Prior-Grubbs was born in Barnwell South Carolina in
1786. She married three times and had children by all three marriages. Her third
marriage was to Isham H. Clayton born 1782 in South Carolina.
One of her daughters, Elizabeth Brooke (2nd marriage to Thomas Brooke who is
also my ancestor) married Daniel Wilson Clayton. I believe Daniel Wilson
Clayton was the son of Isham H. Clayton by a first marriage in South Carolina.
Does anyone have ANY clue to who Isham H. Clayton's first wife might be and
can anyone confirm that Daniel Wilson Clayton was his son. I also believe John
J. Clayton who married Levinia Jeter (a daughter of Susanna's by her first
husband Samuel Jeter) and Joseph W. Clayton (whose wife Harriet's maiden name
is unknown) were also sons of Isham.
I have gathered a good bit on each of Susannah's children and their

Dear List,
Further research, actually it just dawned on me, has revealed to me some possible mistakes in information.
The following is an excerpt from an email I just sent my contact in Saline C., Ill.
Perhaps someone out there can help me make head or tails out of this information.
Thanks,
Randy Hughes
Summertown, TN.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just realized that we are probably NOT talking about the same Elizabeth Frances Clayton.
After going back through some emails, it jumped out at me that the dates and ages are not close enough to be the same person.
Example;
Elizabeth was born in 1827 in Hardeman Co., TN.
In your previous message, you quote 1870 Saline Co., Ill. census data as;
"Elizabeth was listed as 55, keeping house and an illiterate Tennessee native. Her household include Alexander, 23, at home; James R., 22, at home; and Thomas, 16; at home, ...."
in the 1870, she would have only been 43 years old.
Example;
Elizabeth F. Clayton b. 1827 in Hardeman Co TN, married William Ferdinand Joyce b 1831. They married 14 Jan 1852 in Lawrence Co TN.
Children listed of Elizabeth and William were;
1. James H. Joyce b 1854 Lawrence Co TN
2. Nancy A b 1856
3. George W. Joyce b 1858 Law. Co TN
the children's names do not match.
I appreciate your efforts!!!
But, it just dawned on me that this might just be coincidental information.
Thanks again,
Randall Hughes
Dear List Members,
I am trying to find information on Elizabeth Frances Clayton.
From my research, I have found the following;
She was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1827. Her Parents were John William "Flat River" Clayton and Nancey Blackard, both of whom were born in North Carolina.
Prior to 1870, she was apparently still living in Lawrence Co., TN.
At some point she had married William Ferdinand Joyce (b. 1831) in Lawrence Co., TN.
They married 14 Jan 1852 in Lawrence Co TN.
However, and this is where things get interesting, she moves to Saline Co., Ill.
BUT, she retains with the Clayton name and the husband is completely out of the picture.
She was listed in the 1870 census (for Saline Co., Ill.) as a Clayton, and so were her 3 children.
"Elizabeth was listed as 55, keeping house and an illiterate Tennessee native. Her household include Alexander, 23, at home; James R., 22, at home; and Thomas, 16; at home, as well as a domestic servant named Mary Carr, 18, an Illinois native. All of the boys were Tennessee natives and Thomas had also attended school within the previous year."
Also, I have no reason for her traveling to Saline Co., Ill..
In any event, at this point, I'd like to know all that anyone has on this family,
but more especially ... when she died and where she is buried.
Thanks,
Randall Hughes
