Hi All
Just a query if anyone can shed any light on
Elizabeth CLAYTON
married George Frederick WILKINSON (unknown year(
died 17 Jan 1960, Preston Lancs
two children
Florence and George
also CLAYTON, Hannah who was married to Thomas, also from Preston,
I think thomas died before the 1901 Census as Hannah is listetd as living
with William WILKINSON at 73 Lovat Road, Preston,.
Does this look familiar?
Stuart Wilkinson
Preston, Lancs, England
What is your CLAYTON line and where were they located in the United States,
along with the dates?
Sincerely,
Richard Brice - My Grand Mother was Martha Elizabeth CLAYTON, b: 19 April
1850, in Morgan County, Illinois. Her Father was Moses L. Clayton, b: Sept.
27, 1821, in Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky. According to the census
reports, his parents were born in Georgia.
Can anyone help?
I am still searching for the parents of Isaac Clayton (apparently
transcribed incorrectly as Isaac Claytor) in the 1840 Dover Twp., Monmouth
County, NJ, Federal population schedule.
The number of people in his household then matches the 9 he had in 1850 when
he was in Howell Township Federal Census...as Isaac Clayton.
His wife is Phoebe (Phebe) Van Hise, according to Index of marriages,
Monmouth Cty, NJ (Howell Historical Society copy), Married Dec. 21, 1822.
According to his death certificate, d. Oct. 15, 1883 in Howell, his parents
were: Joseph Clayton and Annie Russell (Rossell? Runnelle?), both "born in
USA".
He had a sister ? who apparently married a Halsey Smith and lived in Essex
County.
What is the connection of Howell Twp. and Dover Twp.?
Does anyone have this Isaac in their database for prior to 1840?
I would be very grateful..
Gail in NJ

Kathy,
If you have had such good luck in finding individuals on your ancestors,
CLAYTON, would you see if you can find anything on Moses L. Clayton, born
Sept. 27, 1821, in Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky?
Sincerely,
Richard Brice
Dear Anita,
I am most interested. I don't know what this job would require, but
maybe I can handle it. Please forward me the information and I will look it
over. I know my brother, a direct male from the Virginia Clayton's, will be
willing to participate in the study. We will have to see how it proceeds from
there. Thanks so much,
Margie
Hello, Murray.
Thanks so much for the tip to look at this tree.
At first I thought I wouldn't be able to locate it,
but it turned out to be easier than I had thought.
I will certainly be needing to contact John R. Okerson.
(I wonder where Okerson Island is?)
When I saw that you said that he has Thomas Clayton as their father,
I knew that he had gotten that from Raymond Bell's
New Jersey Claytons book, which, unfortunately,
has no documentation for this assertion.
When I got to the tree, I saw that he give both
of the choices of parents that I have seen elsewhere -
Thomas and Elizabeth Clayton
and David and Sarah Carter Claton
(which is in the Marion Co., WV history book
and maybe in other places I haven't yet seen).
There is no documentation given there
for that set of parents either.
It does give me more confidence
in Mr. Okerson's research to see that
he has been thorough enough to show that
there is not yet agreement on this point,
something you don't often see on the Internet.
I will appreciate very much hearing from anyone
who might have some documentation
for either of these sets of parents.
