Looking for my grandfather. any information to connect to a Daniel T.
Clayton b New York 1859. Father was also Daniel, mother unknown. Siblings
unknown. Any help appreciated.
Hazel Rasar
I have been sent some information on these studies by several people.
Looks like it costs from $99 to about $170 to do the tests. They
outlined what needs to be done. Looks fairly simple.
I do not have the time or organizational skills to take this on, but if
someone is interested I will forward the information to you.

Hi: Just saw the note where you said you had been waiting for so long. Have
you tried looking in th Ancestry world Tree:The Okerson Island tree ------
http://awt.ancestry.com I just opened to the page 35 of the 37 pages
Ihad printed out and there was Elisha Clayton born 11 Dec. 1757 d. 31 March
1845, above him was Elijah Clayton born the same day and died March 20
1837-twins? There is no places where all these Claytons originate from but
copy out the tree and it might come together for you. I too am a female
Clayton tracing my family from Worcestershire, England. If I can help ,keep
in touch. -Lorraine from Ontario. Canada. By the way the
father appears to be Thomas Jr. born abt. 1756 and died abt 1785, the wife
Elizabeth unknown, born abt. 1735 and died ? Happy hunting!
Ditto on my guys being ruled out...their 4th and/or 5th great grandmother
is the Clayton connection but we'd be really excited to hear about any NJ
Clayton results.

Hello, Anita.
I am VERY interested in the Clayton DNA study,
but it's too bad it doesn't work for women.
I will be interested in hearing more about it.
I assume that "direct line males" means that the brother or son
has to bear the surname Clayton, which also leaves us out.
We have corresponded before about the NJ Claytons,
which certainly need untangling!
We descend from Elisha Clayton, one of
the Freehold Township, Monmouth Co. twins.
Even if, unfortunately, we can't participate,
I will be hoping for the breakthrough
we have been waiting for so long.
I guess I better not get my hopes up too high!

Many RootsWeb lists housed on the same server were
affected by some unscheduled down-time caused by hardware
problems....since March 26th.
Mail is running again, but current messages will be posted first,
and older messages will gradually be re-introduced into the queue
so as not to overload the servers. This will probably create some
confusion for the first couple of days, when you might see an answer
before you see the original question.
If you had posted a message / query which you haven't yet seen posted,
give it a day or two, and if you don't see it, just post the message
again. Expect to see mail chronologically out-of-order for a day or
two, so if your in-box automatically "sorts by date" mail may jump _up_
in your in-box.
Once the server problem was noticed, incoming mail was cached
for later (deferred) delivery, but anything posted at the same time
period when the server quit is probably lost.

Hello all,
As a Clayton descendent on my maternal side, I thought I'd let you
know that I have participated in the Hatcher DNA study. It is less
expensive if a group of 10 gets together and one person manages the
info. I must admit that we have had many surprises, especially how
little the 12 marker tests gave us. We have had to expand to the 25
marker test (more expensive) and finally we have had some
breakthroughs in connecting family members. I have listed the link to
our site:
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Hatcher
I believe I have a male Clayton descendent that will participate to
represent the Central Mississippi Clayton family.
Regards,
Greg Hatcher
descendent of
William Clayton (177?-1840)
of Orangeburg SC
I am interested. My earliest known Clayton ancestor is Isham Clayton who
lived in old Orangeburg, SC. At this time I have no suggestions on how to
get started.

I am looking for the descendants of Harry Clayton and Mary Wildt.
According to the 1930 census in Newark, Essex, NJ, 117 7B-8A, he had two
daughters Shirley Clayton, b. 1927- 1928 and June Clayton, b. 1929. He
may have had other children after the 1930 census. They later lived in
Lawrence Harbor.
Harry Clayton was the son of Joseph Clayton and Jane/Jennie Curtis. I
have more on his ancestry. Harry was born 4 Sep 1900 in Ocean Grove,
Neptune, Monmouth, NJ. Mary Wildt b. 1903, Newark, NJ, was the dau of
William Wildt and Mary Conway of Newark.
Harry was an only child, as far as I know.
He married Mary Wildt of 44 Bloomfield Ave. Newark, 2 Dec 1925 in St.
Michaels, Newark. Harry's parents were living at 476 Bergen St. Newark
then. The Claytons had lived while Harry grew up in Bradley Park and
before that Ocean Grove both in Monmouth county, NJ.
I find Harry and Mary living in Newark, with their two daughters Shirley
2, and June 9/12 on Garside St. in 1930. He was an auto mechanic. He
died 19 Apr 1938, age 38, in a gasoline explosion in Irvington, Essex,
NJ, at his work Raab Motors. They were living at 48 Lantana Way,
Lawrence Harbor then.
I would love to find relatives, who would be 3rd cousins to my husband.
Anita Clayton
Margie,
I have an article about the West's and their study. I friend gave it to
me and I think it is from the New York Times recently. I have it at
work, not here at home. Maybe a search of their archives would bring it
up, until I can retreive it.
Also, if there is a West list, I am almost positive that was the surname,
maybe a posting to that list, or the Cooper list, would bring some
answers

Anita;
I am from the Virginia Claytons and my brother might be interested in
the testing. I know I am interested and I can't participate, so I'd like to
volunteer him. I know that the Cooper Family has been doing the DNA research
and it has proved interesting.
Anyone else out there interested? Do you know where we begin and what
we should do?? Help, please.
Margie
This list has been quiet for awhile.
I was wondering if there was any interest in a DNA study of Claytons to
determine which lines people come from. I don't really have the time to
organize one, but my husband would love to participate in one. I know
some other families have started them. There was a recent news article
on a Wells family who is doing one. Brigham Young University is running
a general one. Only works for direct line males.
He comes from NJ Claytons

NO POLITICS. JUST GENEALOGY. That's now Rootsweb's
rule as well as the long time rule of most lists.
Here's the official statement from Rootsweb:
"It is period of intense political times when emotions
and opinions will run high in many directions."
"The simple issue is that RootsWeb is for genealogical
research and not for political discussions. Equivalent
political situations have been known to cause significant
disturbances and needed intervention by admins and
occasionally by staff. RootsWeb asks all admins to
reinforce where necessary to their subscribers the basis
of the mailing lists and their provision by RootsWeb to
users, and, where necessary, take reasonable actions to
maintain the focus of mailing lists. Please be firm but
nice. Good luck, we will all need it."
"RootsWeb cannot and will not be supportive of list
administrators who encourage political discussions on
mailing lists."

Does anyone have information on Moses L. Clayton. He was born on September
27, 1821, in Caldwell County, Princeton, Kentucky. His parents were born in
Georgia.
His daughter, Martha Clayton, who was my Grandmother, was born 19 April,
1850, in Morgan County, IL. I have found that a LDS member had her baptized
into the Mormon Church. I have tried to research the member to see if they
had any genealogy on Moses L. Clayton, but have been unsuccessful so far.
