Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I received this from one of my lists and thought people should know.

Hi Everyone:
The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com
Behind the password protection are links to the free
genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own.
In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to
surrender a credit card or bank account number. You
have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess
what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this
surprise you?
One person who recently fell for the come-on had
his/her account dinged not once, but twice.
It is time to remind folks on your state and county
mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a
couple of years since we have mentioned this.
Permission is granted to pass this on.

This looks like a really good possibility for Ott's father:
Merriman M. Clayton, husband of Barbara E.
Born September 4, 1855
Died April 17, 1922
Haskell County, Oklahoma
All buried at Brooken Cemetery
I apologize for that mess I sent on Arthur M. Clayton. I have no idea
what happened. I copied part of a letter and filled in the rest and I
sure screwed up and got a mess...margie
Can anyone help me with Sally/Sarah Ann Clayton? She was born in Symar,
Delaware. She married Jonathon Purnell and all of their children, but one was
born in Delaware. In the 1850 they moved on to Illinois. Thanks

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining genealogical information from
the Fed. Govt.? I have two ancestors who worked for them in the late 1800's
and early 1900's. Ralph Wesley Clayton worked for the "Federal Secret
Service Bureau" and was later a secret service man for the U.S. Treasury.
His father-in-law, Cyrus Beede was an Indian Agent and Indian Inspector for
the Dept. of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1860 to 1900. I have
made feeble attempts to contact the Dept. of Interior with no response. It
there a contact group in the Fed. Govt. which responds to genealogical
inquires?
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

It appears that these children were either the children of Pate and
Myrtle or Clayton and Cothran, but not Myrtle and Clayton together.

By posting to the list, you showed us all your own petty nature yet again.
For goodness sakes, no one is perfect and genealogogy of all places is one
where there is a tendency for novice net users to make mistakes. Mistakes
like, for example, top posting which many consider poor nettiquette and
which you have just demonstrated.
Believing virus hoaxes has to be the single most common mistake for a person
new to the internet to make, and this particularly hoax, in its latest
incarnation, is particularly clever.
Warn people, yes. Post a "thread over" message, but understand that the
internet is not always instantaneous and others may reply before they
receive your message. However banning people from the list is unnecessary
and simply mean.
There is no need to be a net-snob!!!
Don't bother banning me from the list either. By the time you read this,
I'll have unsubscribed. But Cheska, please grow up and don't put more new
posters off the net.

Myrtle I. Spradling daughter of Vette Finley, born South Carolina and

Brooken, 20, August 27, 1908....page 197

Three of the Clayton children were Dennis, Edith, Gladys.
Once and for all!!!! Is this thing for real or not???
I'm getting tired and fed up with these so-called "teddy bear" or ink
blotches "viruses."
So is it real or fake???

My 2nd great granduncle George Edward Clayton lived in Oklahoma. He was born 28 August 1834 (in Clark Co., MO). He died 22 March 1915 (in Guthrie, Logan Co., OK). He was married to a Mary Caswell who he divorced and then married Euprasia J. Williams.

I would never delete a file coming through email. I have this same old
game played time and again. I have actually had some people tell me
they fell for this hoax and lost some files. There is an old saying,
"Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see."
This was my first experience on the Clayton line. I hope this is not
what the future holds for this web site.
I am looking for Claytons that lived in Oklahoma.
