Hello,
This Clayton wasn't mine but while vacationing in Wash DC last week, I
visited the National Archives on the MALL. I checked out some of the census
indexes on microfilm and CD.....
I found my gr grandfather and his mother in the 1880 census. Julia & Robert
Clayton who lived in DC with his Civil War veteran father William Henry
Clayton.
I also found some more of my Va. forebears.....Maria Harrison and her
children: Rosa, Charles, Helen, Lula, and Belle. All from the 880 census.
I also found their grandchildren who lived first in Roanoke and then later
Lynchburg in the 1900's.
Their names were Raymond and Norma Clayton.....just like my mother....
OK.....just thought I should pass that on. Talk to you soon.

Looking for Maggie Hall, who posted to this list on Oct. 24,1998 and
Dec. 7, 1998. Those posts had to do with Claytons from Baltimore
and Monterey Co. CA. The email address she posted from is no longer valid.

Dear All , My G-Grandmother was Martha CLAYTON , born approx . 1866 in Romily , Cheshire to John CLAYTON . At some time around 1886 she married Charles Frederick WILLIAMSON in Cheshire UK or Newark , New Jersey USA where their first children were born . We cannot find their marriage entry . this is my brick wall . The best entry for Martha's family in the 1881 census of Romily is JohnCLAYTON (47) of Hill Top Farm . His wife Margaret (45) , b. Bramhall and their children :Thomas U 19 , b Cheadle Hulme , Martha U 17 , Romiley, Harriet U 13 , Romiley, Sarah U 10 , Romiley , Margaret U 8 , Romiley and Ann U 5 Romiley . Source : FHL Film 1341830 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 3465 Folio 134 . In 1871 they are at Top O'Th' Hill Farm and john is now 32 which I think is the more accurate figure . In 1841 there is a John CLAYTON at Greave Fold Romiley , son of Thomas and Mally CLAYTON . He is 12 then . I would love to hear from anyone who might be able to help me with this puzzle . Than!
k you in advance Trish White

My turn with the elusive Clayton's of VA....
Joseph Clayton b approx 1806 , ? VA, m Ruth Roberts 1928 in Washington/Scott
Co VA. Traveled by wagon to Hancock Co IN (Greenfield) approx 1834, where
they were instrumental in starting the first Methodist church (which still
stands) . Joseph died 1867-68 in Hancock Co. He and Ruth had 11 children;
Mary V Clayton Hamilton, Richard , Henry R, Harriet E Clayton Catt,
Emeline Clayton Leamon, James L , Nancy Catherine Clayton Lamb, Issac W,
Martha Clayton Wiggins, John Andrew Jackson, Sarah Margaret Clayton
Winslow...
Were his parents William and Sarah Smith Clayton of Cabell/Kanawa Co VA ? I
think not, only because he didn't name a son William, which I understand was
customary. But can't find proof one way or the other!
Any help? Thanks!
OK...my turn.
William Henry Clayton...born in Radford, Va in or around 1834 or so. Civil
War veteran and son of a Judge Clayton......whoever that was?
OK.....if anyone has any info re: the above let me know....
Thanks,
Tim
According to a fellow researcher, a year or so ago, before I subscribed to
this list, there was a pretty lively debate regarding the origins and parents
of Samuel Clayton, who married Susannah Morris. He was born about 1640, some
say in Virginia and others UK. There was also, I am told, quite a bit of
speculation regarding who his parents were. I am interested in knowing if
anything conclusive came out of the exchange, or if any new information
turned up in the meantime.
Justin
that is all I have regarding Samuel also:
1. SAMUEL1 CLAYTON1 was born Abt. 1640 in Gloucester County, Virginia, and
died 1702 in King and Queen County, Virginia2. He married SUSANNAH MORRIS3
Abt. 1672 in Gloucester County, Virginia. She was born Abt. 1642 in
Gloucester County, Virginia, and died November 04, 1710 in Virginia4.

Still trying to find Tammy Clayton. She would be about 37 now, born in December, in San Mateo, California. Her father is Bill (William) Clayton, mother is Candi, brother Billy. Last known her in California, and her parents are God-Parents to my eldest sister Michelle. I have been trying to find her for almost three years, until I stumbled across this site. If anyone has any information or can help me locate Tammy, PLEASE let me know. Would love to be able to tell my sister I found her!

Dear Cheska,
Well I apologize, but I kept getting email after email about it, so that is
why I sent what I did in reply. I was only trying to HELP. That is what
the world is all about... helping people. Makes it go round a bit smoother.
If you feel that you must remove me because of my attempt in trying to help,
then by ALL means do it! That is YOUR choice. I did NOT start the post of
the hoax, nor did I start the 'rehashing' of it. I just simply replied to
the posts/emails I kept getting from the 'Clayton site'.
Know what? Go ahead and remove me, because you are not going to like what I
have to say here. You said that if people aren't 'smart enough', 'I have
little sympathy for them', and 'they are as much of the problems as the
original hacker who dreamed up this scam.' I am sure the ones that do not
know much about the computer, the internet, etc were REAL excited to hear
that, bet you made them all feel MUCH better. Take me off of your list,
because I would rather be taken off, than to be in a group 'owned' by you,
when you are such a cold person.
Good day

Either will tell you all you need to know about such things.
Wish I could find info about Zephaniah & Tyler(ee) CLAYTON.
