Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Mr. Knight.
The so-called virus that you mention is a HOAX. The "C" drive
jdbgmgr.exe file is a Java Debugging File, and is part of you PC
operating system. DO NOT DELETE. Go to your Norton AV descriptions
and check it out on page 51-60, and they clearly tell you that this is a
HOAX. Unfortunately, we did not find this out until we had deleted the
file. Now, we have to find out how to get it back.
We have also been getting many messages that have no apparent
content to them, but they are using up about 144KB of space on your PC,
but there is not an indication of a virus. We are puzzled about this.

Since this list is part of our address book.. if we had a real virus I would
WANT people to post a warning.. destroying years of genealogy research is
worth it!

I just received a message today from one of my friends in my Address Book.
Their computer had been infected by a virus and it was passed on to my computer. My address book, in turn, had become infected and it may have used my address book to infect you. I followed the instructions below, to the letter, and found it had entered my system twice and I have now sent it to the recycle bin and followed that by emptying my recycle bin. It's an easy step-by-step process and highly recommend you follow it.
The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system.
It's sent automatically by the messenger and by the Address Book, whether or not you sent e-mails to your contacts. I have checked, found it, and deleted it, so my system should now be clean.
Here's how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it:
DO THIS:
1. Go to START; FIND or SEARCH option.
2. In the FILES/FOLDERS option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search your C:DRIVE
4. Click "FIND NOW."
5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT
6. RIGHT CLICK and DELETE it. It will then go to the Recycle Bin
7. Go to the Recycle Bin and EMPTY THE RECYCLE BIN to delete it there
8. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, AS I DID, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK
SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. I DID IT BY GOING TO MY ADDRESS BOOK, GOING TO "EDIT" AND CLICKING ON "SELECT ALL." Then I directed this msg to all of you. I had it, so I feel sure you will find it too. Let's knock it out of the system!!!!
