I have an old family tree, hand written ,that my grandfather copied and
brought to US in 1890s. There are several Benjamin Claytons on there. Info
includes:
Benjamin, born 1844 died 1875 tombstone in Barnet, first son of
Benjamin (1812-1882) married in 1841 to M.E. Hanger, remarks: "R" ( "R"
apparently means either "Ridge" or "Register",./ that Benjamin is the
second son ( after James 1809-1824, also "R") of Benjamin ( 1777-1843 ,
remarks "TR" T = Tombstone, R must be "Ridge") and Ann Lammas ( 1789-1829 ,
remarks, "RR" register Ridge??) and that Benjamin is the third son, after
James and George, of James (1732-1791 , remarks RW for birth W= Wormington,
and TR for death) and Ann, (1737-1802 TR) and that James was the 5th son of
Lawrence Clayton and A. Tondeman, both born 1700, married 1725 (W) . He died
1760, she in 1774, both in W. The other sons of Lawrence and Ann were in
order, Henry, John, Charles, John, James, Richard, Benjamin and Francis. No
daughters. I don't know Geography of the area, living in San Francisco,
but does that help.? My grandfather was Ernest, 1868, son of James 1829, who
was the youngest brother of Benjamin 1812-82 and James 1809-24. That would
make my grandfather first cousin to the first Benjamin, among many others.

hi!
Seeking info on Henry Clayton, who lived in Prince
George (?) VA circa 1700-1720. He is listed on
documents pertaining to my William Hulme. My
William's grandson Robert Hulme married a Frances
Clayton and also her sister, whose name is unknown at
this time. They lived in VA, then moved to Williamson
Co., TN. I find mention of a Robert Clayton among
Williamson Co. records, but I don't know if he's a
brother, father, uncle, etc.
Can anyone tell me about Henry or Robert?
Thanks so much!

I have a James Clayton b, 1766 who may have come from VA. I dont know
where he was born.
(a little background ) The Waters and Farrow famlies lived in Northern
Neck Va. They moved first to NC then to Spartanburg SC before the war.
At some time shortly after the war James Clayton married Mary Farrow.
Fielding Clayton and William Clayton and some daughters were born. The
two sons, after the death of the mother moved to Red Banks MS.
While in Spartanburg they lived on Two Mile Creek. William had a son
James who moved to Pine Bluff Ark. James had a son George who moved to
Calif. George had a son Harry who was my father.
I would very much like to know about the parents of James.

I have recently come into possession of a picture of James Stewart
Clayton, son of Charles Collier Clayton, Jr; and two of his brothers. I
will be glad to send a copy on request and hope that someone might be
able to help me identify the two brothers.

Hello
Don't know if my Claytons were ever in VA but I have an Elizabeth Bourland
b. 1807 in Spartanburg, SC who married Francis Huell Clayton b. in KY in
Calloway Co., KY.
Somewhere their paths had to have crossed.
It is easy to find Claytons but hard to find your own, why is that?

In trying to complete the William "Flat River" Clayton and Benjamin Crews Book, we need more information and pictures on their children who left Lawrence County, TN about 1850 and went to other areas.
The following are missing and probably located in the Missouri and Illinois area;
Rachel Clayton married David M. Barnett about 1840-1850 Gallatin Co., Illinois
James W. Clayton married 3/4/1847 Mary Barnett in Gallatin Co., Illinois
Jeremiah B. Clayton and his wife Elizabeth Crews Clayton were missing from Lawrence Co., TN after 1870..?
Elizabeth Francis Clayton and husband William Ferdinand Joyce went to Saline Co., Illinois,
where he died 3/17/1898
Henry M. Clayton mar Hannah Stilley 1/9/1869 Gallatin Co., Illinois.
Huldah Clayton and husband R. Stephen Shoemate went to Phelps/Crawford Co., Illinois
Benjamin Crews, Jr's wife Elizabeth Stone Crews left Lawrence Co., TN after he died in 1841
with the children and went to Jackson Co., Illinois
Zachariah Crews and his #2 wife Sarah Voils are missing from Lawrence Co., TN records after 1860..
they may have gone to the Saxton, Missouri
Obediah Crews mar Rebecca Cobb 11/10/1835 in Caswell Co., NC. Do anyone know where they went?
Jonathan Crews and his wife Elizabeth Adeline Keeling Crews died 1886 in Alton, Missouri, Oregan Co.
Any help will certainly be appreciated.

Sorry,
My Clayton lineage is straight out of Central Va. Most particularly in and
around the Lynchburg and Roanoke areas.......
I did have a William Henry Clayton who served in the Civil War. He was a 1st
Sgt.
I think he's buried in Arlington National Cemetery in DC.
Hope that helps narrow it down some...
Tim
