Hi Elizabeth,
I too have John Beals, Mary Clayton and Sarah Edge in my tree. I descend
through Honour Clayton. I can't find a Thomas Bowater currently in my
tree, but it may be because I am in the process of reentering my tree
into a new program after my last one became corrupted...UGH! I also have
a Jane Paxson, Jacob Jehu PickerING, and a Williams (but she- Williams-
is married in to the line so I don't know anything on her). I have seen
the variance in Prudence's last name as well, I have it as Mickel with a
son of her's with a middle name as Mickel too.
Please contact me, I would love to compare notes.

Hi Listers,
I posted several messages in October describing an elusive Clayton line of
mine. No one, except one tip for a publication called The Genealogist which
I was never able to locate, had any clues about my line. I gave up and
started to research other family lines of mine, namely Pickrell, Paxson and
Williams. I found that some of my 8 greats grandparents are John Beals, Mary
Clayton, Thomas Bowater and Sarah Edge. I was very happy to discover my
second, and a well documented, Clayton line. One question I have is , is it
generally accepted that William Claytons(b. 8 Dec 1632) wife is Prudence
Lanckford, rather than Prudence Mickel??
So I returned to the challenge of my first Clayton line and just discovered,
finally, a reference to the same town, Mifflin, Wisconsin, as Eli Clayton
resided. There is a website, Clayton Historical Society, address,
claytonhs.com that makes reference to Mifflin. The website is about Joel
Clayton who settled Clayton California. I have not communicated yet with
the volunteers there , but I believe my Eli is a brother to Joel. I got my
first clue to this lead from the Clayton Archives, a message from Jan. 1998
from Susan Guhm, who posted a message in passing, thinking some one may find
it of use. Thank you Susan!
Happy hunting!
