Hi: I have a Samuel Clayton from Worcesterhire, England born
c.1886,June19,son of Job and Elizabeth Clayton. Samuel is my Uncle ,a Boer
War and also WW 11 soldier. Lorraine from Ontario,Canada
OK....thanks for the update....
I'm looking for info on my gr grandfather Robert Clayton who was born in Sept
1867; and later died in Roanoke, Va in Aug 1901... I think he was the son of
William Henry Clayton of the USCT who later moved to Wash DC after the Civil
War. I saw his name enscribed in the aluminum wall of honor that surrounds
the entrance to the Afro-American Civil War museum on U Street in DC....
I think W.H. Clayton died in or around 1868 in Wash DC. I think he's buried
in Arlington Nat'l Cemetery.... OK...hope that helps.....
Any info anyone has will be most appreciated!! Hope you all had a great and
appetizing Thanksgiving Day...
Tim
Here is what I have on Samuel Clayton; I have been unable to independently
prove some of this information, but I have listed the sources that I reviewed
to put together this information. Mary Clayton who married Robert Coleman is
the only one that I have definite proof on.
I also descend through John Clayton and Mary Sadler Clayton, but the proof is
skimpy, until I get to George Clayton, 1723-1786.
Virginia Green
Samuel Clayton was born about 1640 and died before 1704. He married
about 1665 in Gloucester Co., VA, Susannah [Morris] who was born about 1645
and died October 10, 1710. It is not known who their parents were.
Children:
1. John Clayton was born about 1675 and died in 1737. He married Mary
Sadler.
2. Thomas Clayton was born unknown and died ca. 1720 . It is not known who
he married.
3. Morris Clayton had an estate in Caroline Co., VA in 1737.
4. Jeremy Clayton was born by 1683. His death date is unknown. It is not
known who he married.
5. Mary Clayton was born between .1682/86 and died in 1755. She married
Robert Coleman.
6. Samuel Clayton was born about 1687/89 and died around 1734/35. He
married Elizabeth Pendleton in 1702.
Susannah "Cleyton" "(widdow)" is found in King and Queen County, VA with
700 acres of land in the 1704 Quit Rent listing.
Sources:
1. Boddie, Historical Southern Families, VII pg. 18
2. "King and Queen Co., VA" Genealogies of Virginia Families, Vol II, pg.

3. He was on the 1704 King and Queen Co., VA Quit Rent List near his
mother (Smith, The Quit Rents of Virginia, 1704, pg. 19)
4. Genealogies of Virginia Families, Vol. II, pg. 286
5. Jennifer Heck, 3 May 1999
6. Left a will in Essex County, VA 1734-35
7. Samuel was baptized September 30, 1689 (Abingdon Parish Church
Records). Other undocumented sources have his birthdate as 1673 and that he
married Susannah Henderson.
8. Smith, Annie Laurie Wright, compiler: The Quit Rents of Virginia,
1704, pg.19.
Here's mine- John and Mary Sadler Clayton> George Clayton 1 and Ann Read>
George 2 and Sarah Dodson Lambert> George 3 and Margaret Thompson> John
Clayton and Elizabeth Neil> Calvin C. Clayton and Sabrina Bradley> William
Julius Clayton and Mary Elura Bird> Thomas Herbert Clayton and Odelia
Wilfing> Mary Clayton and Richard Carroll (my parents). I have listed also
as children for Samuel and Susannah Morris Clayton besides John and
Mary-Jeremy,Samuel, Thomas and Morris. For John and Mary Sadler I have
listed Thomas, Rebecca, George, John and William but no Daniel. In all the
different lines, I have collected I don't see an Ann Clark or a Daniel
belonging to John and Mary. I have found that on receiving different lines,
I will find a child's name that I didn't see on another one. Maybe that is
what happened here. Do you have the other children of John and Mary listed.
Where do you live?

This is what I have.
Daniel's four sons migrated to North Carolina by 1768, they were John,
Daniel Jr. Thomas and Richard. By 1780 the Clayton brothers and their
families were living in Caswell County, North Carolina and in 1792 that part
of Caswell became Person County, North Carolina near Roxboro.
After moving to Caswell County, Thomas, John and Richard claimed land on
Mayo creek. Thomas farmed tobacco, but was also was a merchant and
trandeman. He died in 1791 while on a trading trip to Edenton, North
Carolina. He was buried there.
Many of the Clayton's and other family families in the area are recorded in
the records of the Flat River primitive Baptist Church.
Daniel lived in St. Martins parish of Old Hanover County, Virginia as early
as 19 mar 1732. Essex County, deed Book 29, page 399-400. The records reveal
that he bought 200 acres from Henry Wood.
Daniel's son John sells this land in 1761 to his brother Richard Clayton and
his wife Susannah. It states that the land was left to his brother by his
father Daniel Clayton's will. Some of this information is the work of Jim
Clayton of Burlington, North Carolina.
All this is the book written by Mary Nell Franks. Would you like a address?

Howdy
I have some Daniel Clayton's in my line from Virginia. That line includes
Daniel Clayton who married Ann Clark. The were the parents of John Clayton
b. ca 1675 Gloucester County, Va. that had a son Daniel b. ca 1705, in
Tidewater, Gloucester Cty. Va. who married Mary Barnett.
Daniel and Mary had four sons and the oldest was Thomas Clayton wo married
Sarah Coleman, which is my line. But Thomas had a younger brother Daniel who
married Rebecca Clayton around Petersburg Va. Thomas had eight children
which included my g.g.grandfather John William Clayton, who married Rachel
Crews and later Nancy Blackard. A younger brother Daniel Clayton married Ann
Crews. By this time this line of Clayton's were in Persons County, North
Carolina.
Daniel Clayton and Ann Crews had nine chiildren and most of them moved to
Kentucky and some are in Iowa today.
There are several Sarah Ann Clayton's.
Is this any help?

Hi: I'm still looking for the Job Clayton family. Could SKS help me out and
look up on a census after 1883 in the Worcestershire area of Evesham, for a
Job Clayton and his family. He should have a wife called Elizabeth and
several children by then, one of which would be my Dad, Thomas James Clayton
born May 22 1883 in Chadbury Norton. I would be eternally grateful.
Thankyou ---Lorraine(Clayton) Livingston ---Ontario,Canada.

Hello CLAYTON folks:
I'm searching for info about the Jesse CLAYTON line (see below).
First, did Jesse CLAYTON (b. ca 1720-1740?) live in Virginia?
Second, is he related to the following CLAYTON line of Virginia?
1 -- John Clayton (1680-1759)
m. Elizabeth ___________? (1680-1756)
2 -- George Clayton (1718 - ___?)
m. Nancy _____________? (1718-1775)
3 -- Charles Clayton (1743- abt1800)
m. Nancy Love (1750 - _____?)
4 -- Charles Collier Clayton (1781-1862)
m. Nancy Toney (1780-1855)
My interest in the lines is on both sides of my family tree:
William Wilson CLAYTON married my GGG Aunt McCAY on my mother's side,
and lived in Pickens County SC (the old Pendleton District)
Charles Collier CLAYTON is on my father's side, and he lived in Pickens
County, SC the SAME TIME as the Jesse CLAYTON line. Are the two lines
related?
Trying to connect the lines - maybe they were the same CLAYTONs?
Thanks,
Nancy :-)

Hi: Being new to these look - ups I would appreciate any help I can get. As
you say it's a brick wall for me trying to find Job Clayton -my Grandfater's
line. He was born about 1850 in Worcestershire, we think in the Pershore
area. He married Elizabeth and they had 10 Children together, one of which
was my father Thomas James b. 1883 in Chadbury Norton on the 22nd of May.The
birth is registered in the sub-district of Evesham. Thanks a million for any
help anyone can give. Lorraine from Ontario, Canada.
Hi Listers,
I am back with a few more nuggets about Eli Clayton. I am trying to find
out where Eli was born, Pennsylvania Sep 28 1833, is as close as I have
gotten. I believe it was Eli's father, John, who came over from Lancashire
England. I have Eli's obituary from Atlantic Iowa, May 22 1893. Not much
genealogy in the obit...." he leaves a widow and a large family of children
who have nearly all reached life's mature estate." I did learn that he was
not Quaker, but belonged to the Congregational Church. So my Quaker
Claytons started with Eli's son, Ralph Wesley Clayton. Eli's obit also
states that Eli had one or two brothers who had been in Congress. Eli owned
a large estate in Pottawattamie County and was a president of a Nebraska
insurance company.
Soooo, Eli had at least two brothers, and had a brood himself.
Does any one recognize these Clayton's?
Thank you for any assistence.
