Looking for Nancy Clayton, born abt 1780-1790 in Scotland or Kentucky (or Kentucky of Scot parents?) died abt 1850 in probably Spencer County, Indiana.
Married Thomas Sumner had one son named Seward (sometimes spelled Suard) Clayton Sumner so it is possible her father was named Seward/Suard Clayton.
Thanks,

I am looking for death records for James T. Clayton of Shelbyville, Indiana. He was born on August 11, 1885, and he married Mattie Drake on September 29, 1906. I have complete family lineage for the rest of the Clayton family line connected with James, but cannot find much on James. Also, I know nothing about Mattie Drake except her marriage. I believe she died 1912-1913 because James married a second time to Linnie O. Kaster in 1914 in Shelbyville, Indiana. James and Mattie had a son, Maurice, born in Easton, Delaware, Indiana, on July 6, 1907. If anybody knows about this James T. Clayton of Indiana or Mattie Drake, please let me know.
Hi,
Does anyone have information about Catharine Clayton, of Brunswick Co., VA.?
She married Joseph W. Arnold 20 Dec. 1819.
Bond: Silas E. Abernathy.
Consent: Robert Harris, guardian for Catharine.
I am especially interested in learning more about this Joseph W. Arnold.
There was a Joseph D. Arnold in Mecklenburg Co., and according to a Bible
record, he had three wives. I can only find proof of two: Martha Harper in
1820, and Mary Bennett in 1837. Is Joseph W. actually Joseph D?
Can anyone give me more information on Catharine or Joseph? Thanks.

Hello: I've been watching the CLAYTON names from Pickens County, South
Carolina -- I'm still searching for any clues about my Great-Great-Great
Aunt -- Jane (McCAY/McKAY) CLAYTON of Pickens County.
My Jane McCAY/McKAY was born around 1828 in Pickens -- and married
?_________CLAYTON in Pickens County, SC, sometime between 1844 and 1868,
and had several children with last name of CLAYTON -- born between 1844
and early 1870s in Pickens County, SC. She died sometime before 1873.
She was the daughter of Thomas McCAY/McKAY and Elender (Eleanor) BOLING.
Elender's first husband Thomas McCAY, died in 1843.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A "John CLAYTON" was one of the witnesses for his estate
sale and will. Elender (Eleanor) married again to a GRIFFIN, but had no
children by him.
Jane CLAYTON is mentioned in her mother's will. Could Jane have been
married to this John CLAYTON or one of his sons? It sounds like Elender
tried to take care of Jane CLAYTON's children:
Elender McCay Griffin's will abstract:
Griffin, Elender Box 107 #1023. Probate Judge Office. Pickens, S. C.
I Elender M. Griffin of Pickens Co. being of sound mind and disposing
memory. I desire that all my just debts be paid. I will and desire the
rest and residue of whatever kind or nature to be divided between my
children, excepting from the above devise and bequest the children of my
daughter Jane Clayton decd. as I have heretofore done them all that I
feel able to do.
Dated 2 Sept. 1873. Wit: W. E. Holcombe, R. A. Child, James M.
McFall.
Signed: E. M. Griffin. Filed 30 April, 1875. Est. admr. 21 May 1875
by Aaron Garrett, Thomas Newton, B. F. Lesley who are bound unto I. H.
Philpot, Ord. in the sum of $800.
Anyone have my Jane CLAYTON?
Nancy :-)

This matches up fairly closely to what I have, with some variations in the
lists of siblings.
John Clayton was the son of John Cleayton of Gleaston, Lancashire, b. about
1629-30. His will was proved 2 June 1704 in Monmouth Co., N.J. His wife was
Alice Myers. Their marriage on 11 10M 1661 is was recorded in the records
of the Swarthmoore [Lancashire] [Quaker] Monthly Meeting.
Research on this family has been done by Raymond Bell, and in more recent
years by Mary & Mathew Hilt Murphy. The Murphy's believe that John's father
was a Richard Clayton, b. 1601.

I would like to answer on this "Newton" Clayton name. My family
of Claytons has been proven back to 1651 in Virginia, in Old Rappahannock
County. I never found the name "Newton" until I got to my own
g-g-g-grandfather, William Clayton, Sr. of Pickens Co., SC. His son,
Jesse Clayton, and Jesse's wife, Mary Elizabeth Woodliff, and a son named
Josiah Newton Clayton, born 1833 in Hall Co., GA. This Josiah went on to
be killed in the Civil War. Josiah's sister, Amarilus Adaline Clayton,
who married a Clayton, named one of her children Josiah Newton. This
Josiah Newton Clayton died in Nacogdoches Co., TX in 1928. I have always
wondered where the name "Newton" came from;, as these apparently are the
only two instances that I can find in this particular Clayton line. I
will be watching the List.

Do you know of anyone in the Spartanburg area that I may be able to contact

James D. Clayton married Jimmie Rance Prescott (b 1866 Echols Co. GA)
daughter of Elijah Josiah Warren Prescott and Nancy Smith.
Elijah J. W. Prescott was the son of Jesse P. Prescott and Sarah Brooke.
Sarah Brooke's step-father was Isham H. Clayton who moved to Lowndes County
GA from Barnwell County S.C. with his wife Susannah (Sarah Brooke's mother)
and their "Blended Family" which included both Susannah's children and
Isham's by previous marriages....
My Question is can anyone identify James D. Clayton He is a loose end in my
database. I feel certain he fits in one of the Clayton families that came
from Barnwell Co. S.C. The heads of these families include John J. Clayton
whose wife Levinia Jeter died before he came to Lowndes County GA, Daniel
Wilson Clayton whose wife was Elizabeth A. Brooke. Elizabeth was the sister
of the above Sarah Brooke and half sister of Levinia Jeter. These ladies
were all daughters of Susannah who married first Samuel Jeter, second Thomas
Brooke and third to Isham H. Clayton.
Thanks in advance for any help in matching James D. Clayton to this family.
My direct line does not connect to the Claytons but rather to Susannah and
her son Thomas Tobias Brooke brother to Sarah and Elizabeth.

My husband's direct ancestral line is connected to the DAVIS, CLAYTON and
WEBB families.
The Davis and Webb families were in Pennsylvania in the 1700s and then
migrated north to Ontario, Canada to settle in the York County region.
My search began with the knowledge of Ann CLAYTON's marriage to Isaac WEBB
in 1779, Berks Co, PA. Isaac Webb was the son of John Webb and Rachel
Willits. Have compiled info on the Webb family and have now turned my
search to the Clayton roots.
Based on info available online from several websites and the IGI, I have
hypothesized the following:
1. Ann Clayton born November 17, 1759 in New Jersey to Thomas CLAYTON and
Mary EVERINGHAM. Thomas was married twice, first to Mary Everingham and
second to Mary Lockwood. Thomas & Mary Everingham had seven children, Ann,
Hannah, Content, Mary, William and Lydia. Thomas & Mary Lockwood had one
son William.
2. Thomas Clayton born between 1737-1740 in Mansfield, Burlington County,
New Jersey to Parnell CLAYTON and Content WOOLLEY. Parnell and Content had
5 children, John, Parnell, Deborah, Martha and Thomas.
3. Parnell Clayton born abt. 1709 in Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County, NJ
to John CLAYTON and Mary WOOD. John and Mary had five children, Parnell,
Daniel, Clayton, Joseph, and William.
Would very much appreciate confirmation that the above theory is correct.
Would also appreciate information as to the parents/family of John Clayton
who married Mary Wood.
Many thanks in advance.

Hello Cobleys,
I've just borrowed a book from our local library, Braunstone Parish Registers 1561-1837 which lists all the baptisms, marriages and burials in my local village.
There is one Cobley mentioned. As far as I know she isn't related to my Cobley line (the Earl Shilton one). I thought the information might be of some help to someone.
Entry 178
30 Dec 1723 Thomas Clayton of Thrummaston (Thurmaston) married Ann Cobley of this parish
Good luck in your research,

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your e-mail. Your task sounds like a good one. I'm aware of
the many exploits of this Asher Clayton but have yet to prove that he fits
into my Clayton line. (Central PA)
There is no one that I know of who has claimed this Asher and if they
have are not aware of his military history. From my research I believe he is
from the New Jersey line of Claytons that may have ventured as far as North
Carolina. Im afraid that this info won't be of much use to you.
However, I do believe that if the information you are looking for is
available... it will be at the State Archives in PA. Hopefully your not too
far from Harrisburg. I will keep this info in mind and forward anything I
may find. Good luck in your search. Let me know what you find. Keith
