I'm researching the AMBOS family name, and would like your help in locating
any information relating to the marriage of Cora CLAYTON to Edward AMBOS.
Cora and Edward had six children that have been identified. The names that
I know are Don Ambos, Loraine Ambos, Ova Ambos, Pauline Ambos and G. Avanelle.
The only date that I have, is a birth date of January 01, 1905 for G. Avenelle
Ambos.

Is anyone else who signed up to a rootsweb mailing list as uncomfortable
as I am with the inclusion of these inquiries from the genconnect boards?
Do those who post these things to the boards know their inquiries are
being forwarded here?
Half the time I feel as if I've steamed open someone else's private mail.
Should I happen to have some relevant data, in particular any primary
source that contradicts any of the connections the writers may have made,
I'm not sure the proper course would be to post them privately, tack
stuff onto the genboard by responding to the http URL to which I am not
sure we are receivng any followup responses should someone else have
corroborating or disproving data.
Am I then responsible to double post my response to this mailing list as
well, just in case someone here did have a connection and copied down
some weird information and is heading now off on a wild goose chase?
Doesn't all this add to the bandwidth as well as clog the archives?
Isn't anyone else uncomfortable when someone "answers" the inquiries to
this list and wonder if the response ever gets to the person who
inquired? However handy this practice appears on the surface, it seems
to have had the effect of sacrificing the cohesiveness of the groups and
I'm not quite sure how that happened.
Am I finally losing it this morning?
Cynthia, on her first cup of coffee...

Cynthia:
I usually reply by private email to the person
whose query placed on the Clayton GenConnect
board is automatically posted here and also
invite them to join the list as they are often
unaware that we exist although I have a message
posted on the query board describing how to subscribe
to the list.
The header asking people to post back to the
query board is Rootsweb's doing and I'm not sure
how effective that is. I think people tend to post
queries and then forget to check back for possible
responses. Rootsweb does send them an email though
when a reply is posted to their query.
As for adding to the bandwidth, I don't think we
get that many messages coming from the GenConnect
boards and apparently it is not a concern of Rootsweb
otherwise we would not be instructed as to how to link
the boards to the list.
Personally I don't think GenConnect boards are the
best place for posting queries and although I manage
both the Clayton boards and list, I'm afraid I
don't get around to reading the boards very often.

Any questions regarding management of this list
should be
directed to <cheska(a)ix.netcom.com>.
Unfortunately, I see no one in your list that have been known
members of my line of Claytons. Most of my Claytons have been traced,
but, some of the children are missing, or have never been named or found.
This is what I was interested in with John Thomas Clayton. He had two
known sons, one of whom was named W. Stephen Clayton, and the other was
called James at his birth. I noted that it had been changed in the 1870
Census. This is not unheard of in early times. Many times, they were
not even named before their first birthday. I suppose that was due to
the loss of so many young children to childhood diseases, etc..
Good luck on your future searches; maybe someone will come thru
for you.
Joe
Is anyone out there, besides myself, searching this line of

5. F. P. b. May 1860 MS
F. P. was called "James" on the Census of
1860, Calhoun Co., MS
I have not been able to find the last name of his wife, Hannah
W., nor, where they were married, or the exact date of their marriage.
Orwood, MS is an extinct town, and was located in Lafayette Co., MS,
not far from the family farm in Calhoun Co., MS. They also owned land in
Lafayette Co., MS in 1853.
I would appreciate information if you have such about the above.
Will share with you what I have, even other than the above.

My line of Claytons came out of the Old Rappahannock Co., VA during the
last half of the 17th Century. Also included along with my line of William
Clayton, was the line of Thomas Clayton, and, possibly Samuel Clayton,
tho the latter has not been fully proven at this time. Thomas Clayton wrote
a Will in 1718 that pretty well ties him to the William Clayton line, but,
this line kind of disappears in the shadows during the last half of the
18th Century. I have never been able to trace any of my line to Chesterfield
Co., VA. I would be particularily interested in one John Clayton that comes
out of this line, if anyone has any information on him. Did he later drift
south to along the southern border of Virginia, say, Isle of Wight co in
Virginia??

I am interested in the Clayton's you have in Virginia in the 1600's. My
genealogy only goes back to Francis Clayton who was born about 1725 in
Chesterfield, VA. He married Elizabeth and they had a son Joseph who was
born about 1761 in Petersburg,Chesterfield, VA and maybe a son named John.
Joseph Clayton married Eleanor. Joseph died in 1824 in Nelson County, KY.
(near Bardstown) I have a lot of Clayton information after that I would
be happy to share if we are researching the same Clayton family.
Brenda,
I checked my records on John Clayton that you refer to. Mine is
spelled, "John Baylis Clayton" and he died in 1876 in Pickens Co., SC.
He and his wife, Naomi are both buried in Liberty Cemetery in Pickens
Co., SC. They had two daughters, neither of whom have I been able to
trace. Regret that I could not help.
Joe
What was the time of this union?

My Grandmother was a Clayton from the Cashew Marion Clayton line. I do not
recognize any of the names below. Her family moved from Alabama to Grayson
County in the late 1890's. She settled in Brown County with my Grandfather
A. D. Bowden in early 1900's.
