Annie,
There was a Francis Clayton in Northumberland Co., VA, in 1662.
Apparently he was related to
James Clayton, who was an attorney in that county, at that time. Francis
witnessed on a document, the
same as James Clayton. I believe that I saw a Francis Clayton in county
records north of this area after
that time. I have no way of tracking him from 1662 to 1725, but, he
could be related. I can say that he was probably in the Anglican Church,
as that was the church of the area in Northumberland.

Im looking to see if anyone has any information on Elizabeth Clayton, b c
1831,from Chichester Sussex, married Nicholas Charlier from Belgium in 1861
and had two sons Louis and Andrew Charles. I think Elizabeths father was John
Clayton also from Chichester, and i see from the list that there is a goodly
collection of Claytons in that area of West Sussex. It is possible John was
the son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Pasco, but I have no direct connection
there.

o Last year [2000], I picked up at auction the diary of Lizzie
B. CLAYTON, who apparently lived in the Philadelphia area in
1860 and for some time following. Later references indicate she
married (married name not indicated) and moved to the New York
area, near the Bronx. The diary contains several wonderful
poems, reflections, and a dozen or so locks of hair, some
labeled with the owner's name. I would like to put this diary
into the hands of Lizzie CLAYTON's descendants, after I have
transcribed some of the entries.

All I can say is that extended experience in the telephone field (30 plus
years) and a thorough knowledge of how phone systems work (used to install
them) tells me that this isn't possible on a single line system. Try it
yourself--get on the phone with someone you trust and hit 90#, and then
call back and ask whether they got a dial tone after you hung up. If they
didn't (and they won't), then you'll know that your single line phone
system, at least, isn't vulnerable to this.

As of June 2000 ATT was still saying that this can only affect those
who have PBX phone lines. They state that this scam is targated at
businesses, not residental phones. If you would like to read what
ATT has to say it is at:

Don't push 90# on phone - Do NOT push 90# on your home phone. Got a call
last night from an individual identifying as an AT&T Service
technician who was conducting a test on our telephone lines. He stated that
to complete the test I should touch nine(9),zero(0),the pound sign (#)
and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.
Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#,
you give the
requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them
to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number. I
was further informed that this has been originating from many of the local
jails/prisons. I have verified this information with UCB telecomm, Pacific
Bell, MCI, Bell Atlantic, GTE and NYNEX.
Please beware. DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.
The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with
EVERYONE I KNOW. PLEASE pass this on to everyone YOU know. If you have
mailing lists and/or newsletters from organizations you are connected with,
you are encouraged to pass this on.
Do you happen to have Lt. John Clayton's pension #?
