Dear Lisa,
So were mine.....but are you sure she didn't the "Clanton Gang" instead??
My maternal Clayton forebears were from Virginia; around Roanoke and
Lynchburg.
Any research info available on them??
Thanks again.
Tim
Although I don't see a direct connection there seems to be some
similiarities to my line also----
Robert L Clayton born 8/8/1860 eithier Arkansas or Tennessee
Married a Ella Oliver Leadford dt. unk
children
1903 James Hollis
1906 Lola
1908 Robert Jr.
1911 Charles born in Rome, Mississippi
1912 Edward Mack Forrest City, ARK - family reports Edward was actually born
in MO most likely Dunkin County, MO
1917 Ella dies Leachville, MS county, ARK
1920 Robert on census with new wife "Bessie" in Cross County, ARK
1930 Robert dies Miss. county, Arkansas
1920 census Robert indicates his parents born in Mississippi but his death
certificate indicates Tennessee and is signed by a Pleav or Plear Clayton
I searched the 1880 census in Tennessee and find alot of Claytons a couple
that look like they could be my Robert but not sure;(
Any connections ?
I'd like to hear more about this CLAYTON GANG as my Claytons were abit on
the lawless side as well ;) rumors of moonshining, and living in river boat
houses....Edward was known for his quick bottle filling and wrapping....

Hello,
It is possible that that our CLAYTON are one and the same.
The name Nancy DUFER was from the back of an old Photo and it is only
assomed that her maiden name is CLAYTON.
To be honest I have no idea were her name fits in my tree
The source was an old photograph (So it is possibly taken about in 30's or
40's)she looks to be in her 50's and Nealey in his 40's.
Synthia CLAYTON was born 10/1869 MO(30 yrs. old in 1900 Jaspertownship,
Crawford, AR census) Her father was born in MO - Her mother was born in
IN(?very hard to read but I believe this is what it says)
She has had 8 children 5 living.
Married 18 yrs. (1881/1882)to Jacob OWENS born 1/1855 (45 yrs. old in
census) son of Jake and Mary (MURRAY/MURRY) OWENS.(bolth born in Arkansas)
Does this help at all.
It is believed that she(synthia) died Abt. 1904 Crawford Co., AR
Jacob died in 1911 Crawford Co., AR
It reads: "Nealey OWENS with his Aunt Nancy Duf*** (Possible DUFIER/DUFFIER)
How so you know she is from SC?

MabelHello
My Clayton line is out of Lancashire, UK but recently there were alot of
postings for Claytons of Virginia. I have a booklet for Mt. Vernon, Virginia
from 1928 that I picked up at a yard sale for .25cents. This booklet shows
the home of George Washington and in the back is a list of the Regents and
Vice-Regents of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.
A Miss Harriet Clayton Comegys, fourth regent is mentioned. Elected May
1909, resigned May 1927 and died August 1927. I just thought I would mention
this Clayton connection and see if anyone out there is linked to it.

If you are using Norton Antivirus, you may not get protection from goner
with a live update. Go to the Symantec web site to get it.

While we are still dealing with the new virus Badtrans , we have
another new one to deal with now and it is spreading rapidly.
If you haven't installed an anti-virus program on your computer
yet, now is the time! If you are running a program, it's time
to update your definitions.
This is an alert, NOT an invitation to discuss viruses on this
list. Please contact me by private email, if you have comments.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen this website. Much of my information on
the Fulham Clayton's came from the book, "John Clayton, Pioneer of American
Botany" by Edmund Berkeley and Dorothy Smith Berkeley; published by
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, copyright 1963. This book starts
with WILLIAM CLAYTON, b. c. 1575 in Oakenshaw, Yorkshire, England and has
information on the next 7 generations of Claytons.

Any one know of any connections between the Calloway Co. KY Claytons and the Hopkins County Claytons? Of the 1800 to 1830 period?
John H. Clayton was born in Lexington, Fayette, KY in 1803 and married Elizabeth Bourland in 1825 in Calloway Co., KY where his children, Allen Lamb, Phoebe, Starling M., William B., Ambrose G., Ira C., and Martha Ann were born.
Am almost certain there is a conection but cannot prove it, just have to go back far enough.
