Is anyone researching the family of William and Mary Ann Clayton who
lived SE Missouri? They married in 1867 in Iron Co. Mary Ann was
first married to Wiley Kirkland who was killed in the Civil War. They
were my husband's GGGrandparents. I would like to find any descendants
of William and Mary Ann's.

Cheska : I am interested in Claytons from England. My grandparents, Ernest
Headley(Hedly) Clayton and Martha Ann Bellis Clayton, were both born there. They
eventually ended up in Asbury Park, NJ where my dad, Ernest Morris, was born in
1904. Don't know much beyond that. I know my grandfather had brothers but no
knowledge of names, etc.

Arlene,
I have seen the picture that you are talking about of Josiah Clayton and
his wife. I have a
copy of it some place, but can't locate it at this time. I believe that
I was told that this picture was
take in the early 1870's, and that being the case, this wife would be
Elizabeth Cochran, his third
wife, whom he married in Dawson County, GA, in 1858. Until I can find
that information, I will have
to rely on the above. My information states that Josiah died in 1878.

I've received the following from a young lady in England.
Perhaps some of you would like to make contact with her.

In either the Gilmer County Heritage Book, or The Annals of Upper Georgia (by
Geo. G. Ward), on page 135, there are two photos. One is of Josiah Clayton.
I believe the other to be one of his wives, but there is no name on it.
Would anyone on the list know the name of the lady in the photo next to
Josiah Clayton? (Page 135).
Thanks,
Arlene
Howdy all.......
I'm still looking for my g-grandfather, JAMES SAMPSON CLAYTON, I think
born in Ft. Payne, AL, in or about 1850.
His father might have been WILLIAM HIX CLAYTON, from Grainger, TN. born
~1830.
Any ideas ???

Good News, Bad News, Good News: RootsWeb and MyFamily.com Merger
Good news: You, our contributors, with your financial support, have
helped create at RootsWeb one of the largest and most popular sites on
the Internet. In May, we had over 149 million page views (according
to Nielsen NetRatings combined home and work statistics), sent over
155 million e-mails, and handled over two million downloads of files
from the various archives hosted at RootsWeb. Everyone, take a bow!
This is an incredible community of genealogists, and the advances
we're all making in our research due to the sharing that occurs here
is unprecedented.
Bad news: The more popular RootsWeb becomes, the more costly it is to
simply stay alive and online. Even with your generous support,
expenses continue to exceed revenue. We ran up a truly scary loss
last year. Without outside help, it's not clear how long we'd be able
to go on like this.
Good news: MyFamily.com (you may know them better as Ancestry.com)
recognizes the importance of the genealogical community that has grown
here at RootsWeb, and wants that community to continue to thrive.
They're excited to provide the financial stability we need to ensure
RootsWeb will be around for years to come.
Brian and I are pleased by Ancestry.com's coming involvement with
RootsWeb. Now we can all focus on helping each other on the mailing
lists and message boards, uploading our GEDCOMs,
William Clayton lived most of his life in Pickens County, SC
(1761-1845). His parents may have been Jesse and Ann Carter Clayton
from Virginia.

Hi...just getting started, family info I have so far is confusing and I think incorrect..
1-Joseph Benjamin Clayton..died 1931/32, .Philadelphia Pa...no DOB, mother was Mexican, father came from Savanah, Georgia
leeandgee(a)CORE.com
Yes, I am working on the William Clayton, Sr. and Elizabeth Langley
group, and the Claytons
that you mention below that, also. But, one that I have no knowledge of
is the Jesse Clayton
and Ann Carter. My g-g-grandfather was Jesse Clayton, this Jesse being
the son of William
Clayton, Sr, and Elizabeth Langlely, but, there were other Jesse
Clayton's in the family.
I will be happy to work with you, or anyone, on this group.
Joe Parker
Yes, indeed! I am working diligently on William Clayton and Ellizabeth Langley. What info do you have about Jesse and Anne?
I have stopped hunting for a while, but would be glad to get going again. Let me know.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to get my two cents in for my Clayton line and to see if anyone else out there is working
on this one also:
1. Jesse Clayton & Anne Carter
2. William Clayton and Elizabeth Langely
3. Phillip Clayton and Catherine Taylor
4. Emma Jane Clayton and Augustine Garvin
Does anyone know if these Claytons connect back to the Quaker Claytons (William Clayton who married Joan Smith) of Sussex,
England?
Thanks,
Lana Broussard

The William Calvin and Eli Borden Clayton Reunion will be in Earth, Texas at the Senior Citizen Center on Main Street June 24, 2000.
William and Eli are the sons of Mary Elizabeth Borden and Joseph William Clayton. Joseph is the son of James G.W. Clayton. James Clayton came to Texas with the impresarios and had land grants in Wise and Angelina Counties which were honored by the Texas Republic. James remains a mystery; he was said to have been a shoemaker and hailed from SC. We can only document James from about 1832 in Texas. It would be wonderful to attend this millennium reunion with information of his existence prior to Texas, and maybe even his parentage. Any information will be appreciate.
Mary Elizabeth Borden was a direct descendent of Richard Borden of Providence RI. Her family tree can be traced to Henry Borden in the 1300s in Hedcorn, England.
I noticed that many have been signing "native Texas"--include me in that auspicious group--born in Littlefield, Texas.
