Don,
I have him only as J. S. Clayton with nothing else about him other than being
the husband of Sarah Collista West. I do have a fair amount of information on
the West family if your interested.

Don,
Have you looked for a death certificate for your James Sampson Clayton?
My great great grandfather, James Stewart Clayton, moved from
Mississippi to Johnson Co., TX and owned land in or near Alvarado,
Texas. I do not have a James Sampson Clayton in my data base, but we
might be related. Contact me off the list and we will see what we can
find.

I notice some inquiries about CLAYTONs in Alabama.
I am looking for JAMES SAMPSON CLAYTON, born in Alabama in the mid 1800s.
I don't know where, but one of his children was Hattie Clovis Clayton, my
grandmother.
James moved to Alvarado, TX and then later to Abilene, TX. He was married
to Sarah Calista West, who I believe, was born in Georgia.
Any ideas????

Am trying to confirm whether a Juliet Pope married John Clayton - am
guessing they were both born sometimes around 1725 - info I have shows
that there were three children: John Pope Clayton I,
Cyrus Putnam Clayton and James Clayton. Don't have much else to go on
right now.
Many thanks for any assistance.
Regards, Julie Clayton
Am trying to confirm if Ann Middleton, daughter of Arthur Middleton,
married Cyrus Putnam Clayton, around 1800. The info I got shows they
had four children; Annie Juliet, b 1801, Cyrus Oscar, Earl McDonald and
Hicks Middleton. Any assistance is most appreciated.
Regards, Julie Clayton
Hello
I am newer to geneology and have Clayton as a family line. I know very little yet of my Clayton line.
My grandfather James Alfred Clayton was born July 1913 in Marsden, Yorkshire, died just 12 years ago. My grandmother tells me she knows little of his family. She says she is pretty sure that his father's name was James. She has my grandfather's birth certificate but is still trying to remember where she stored it. His father was gassed in WW1 and in 1927 the mother Mary brought their 5 children, Ester, Sadie who married a Pembleton in Hamilton, Ontario, Edith, James Alf., and Robert to Canada. Firstly to Hamilton, Ontario then to Guelph. My grandfather married Dorothy Edith Chadder April, 1935. They had 6 children, Shirley, Ronald, Patricia, Donna, Gwen, and Robert. Both my uncles have had all girls so I am afraid our line of Claytons is dying off but it sure would be great to find any connections to other Clayton relations to see the line on!
I found Jane Lachs' Marsden connection in the archives of Rootsweb and have been in correspondence with her, she has given me your mailing list address for Claytons! There are many J. Claytons listed on the war graves commission site so until I see my grandfathers' birth certificate I guess I reach another standstill.
I am stabbing in the dark, but would like some help to see how the CLAYTONs
are related to the ELDREDs. I have two families with possibilities:
1. George Jarvis ELDRED m Selina Devling
2. Robert CLAYTON ELDRED
1. George Ferros ELDRED m Laura Cady
2. Charlotte Laura ELDRED m George Russell Sterns
3. CLAYTON Eldred Sterns.
Best wishes,
Eldred W. Atkinson
Rhonda, I am researching the Clayton name, but your name is also in my
family tree. (Leggitt) Are you by anychance from Arizona?

No, Thank you for sending the information. I am just a lurker on this
list and wasn't sure if it was active at all. I'm just getting started
trying to track down the past (with the help of two newly found sisters
and a brother) so all of this talk is just exciting.
Best,
Bill Clayton

I am planning a trip to Houston to visit the Clayton Library and wonder
what advice anyone may have about a visit there. You could email me
hos(a)peppersnet.com if you don't want this on the Clayton page. Thanks
to anyone.
My Clayton line starts with:
Honour Clayton b. 1/18/1661/62 in Chichester, Sussex, England
d. 12/24/1737 in Chichester, PA
m. 8/8/1679 in Burlington, NJ to James Browne
Honours father: William Clayton b. 12/8/1632 in London, England
d. 8/1/1689 in Chester Co., PA
m. Prudence Lanckford
b. 1631 in Surry, England
d. 1660 in chester Co., PA
I would appreciate any help in expanding my Clayton line and affiliated
families.
