NJ - Anyone have any info on Harry Clayton born Sep 1900, father Joseph
Clayton, b.9 Nov 1873, Freehold) mother Jennie or Jane (Curtis?), in
Neptune area, Ocean Grove, Monmouth Co NJ, (lived there 1900, 1910)
later lived Bradley Park West Grove, Monmouth (1915), and Newark, Essex
Co (1920). Joseph on earlier censuses was listed with a Jennie, not sure
if she is same as Jane. Says Jane on census for 1915, 1920, and on
Harry's ? wedding certificate, Jennie on census for 1900, 1910. Jennie
may have died 1910 to 1915. In 1920 Joseph's mother Katherine (Catherine
McLaughlin) Clayton was living with them.
Cannot find his marriage in state records to Jennie which should have
been about April 1900 according to 1900 census. Cannot find birth in
State records for Harry either. Evidently an only child. 1920 Harry was
in Navy on a ship, but listed with parents in Newark.
Harry had an adopted cousin Josephine Jones, b. about 1901, adopted
parents Maggie (Clayton) and Joseph Strahan, of Ocean Grove/Asbury Park,
Maggie died 1916, Joseph Strahan remarried Mrs. Elizabeth Stillwaggon
Jones. Also cousins Beatrice Clayton (Beck, Titus) of Ocean Grove, dau of
Marcus and Minnie (Kittel) Clayton and Joseph A. Clayton son of James and
Hubertina (Brandt) Clayton who ended up in Trenton. Beatrice Beck had a
daughter Delories who married William Young.
Have a marriage for a Harry to a Mary Wildt (Dau of William and Mary
(Conway) Wildt of Newark in 1925. Could be him. Lists Harry's parents as
Jane Curtis and Joseph Clayton.
Anything look familiar? Do I have it right? Have much on this line of
Claytons. Would love to find relatives.

Hi Y'all,
My Julia Ann Clayton married Daniel Walker Pounds in Stokes, NC on
May 9, 1817. As she was only 16 at the time it seems reasonable to assume
that her family were there then also. The only Clayton I found in Stokes
in the 1820 census was named John. Since I only found an index (and Julia
would have been gone then anyway) what I really need is to see if John
was in Stokes in 1810 and had a 9 year old daughter. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Dear Debbie,
I found yor query most interesting. I descend from Zephaniah, son of
John of Shrewsbury. Zephaniah and Tyler (Tylee) served in the same
company in the War of 1812. I have copies of some of the records. Tyler
was a Lieutenant and Zepahaniah was a Sergeant in Captain David Altemus
Company, 2d Brigade, 1st Division under command of Colonel John
Thompson. We have not been able to find the connection between the two
men.
Zephaniah was my gggrandfather. I have been able to trace all the
lineage from him. I have collected quite a bit of info on Tylee, but
have a lot of questions about his wife(s) and children etc. I understand
Tyler was born 7 Nov 1789 in Manasquan, NJ. I have a copule of death
dates...29 Jul 1856; 29 Jul 1836; 25 Jun 1866; 7 Jul 1857. We know he is
buried at Wm. Penn Cemetery , Somerton, PA.
I will be happy to share whatever I have with you. I live in Edison, NJ
Best regards, Bob Fenner

Don,
There is a very good chance that your Hattie Clovis Clayton is related
to my Claytons. I don't have any of your names in my data base but
times and locations are right. My great great grandfather, James
Stewart Clayton was born in Alabama, married in Mississippi and died in
Cleburne, Johnson Co., TX. He owned land in Alvarado. He married Ann
Murphy in Mississippi and married a Mrs. Williams after she died. He
and Mrs. Williams had no children.
I suggest that you do some looking in Itawamba Co., Mississippi.
Please report back if you find something.

You cite Hinshaw as a source of your information for a
William Clayton and Prudence Mickel. May I ask which
Monthly Meeting this can be found in? Do either the
Hiatt or Way genealogies offer any documentation for
the surname Mickel?
Most of us show the Quaker William CLAYTON as marrying
Prudence LANCKFORD 7 Nov 1653 at St. Pancras Church,
Chichester, Sussex. The marriage banns state she was the
daughter of William Lanckford of Broughton, Hampshire.
The marriage banns also state that William was the son of
William Clayton of St. Pancras parish. This is proof that
his father was NOT Thomas Clayton of the Yorkshire family.
This erroneous connection was made totally without proof in
"The Clayton Family" published in 1904 by Henry Hepburn.
