To what area and what names have you traced your Clayton family in England?
I have records of a Clayton family in England in Gloucestershire from 1700
on. Nancy Praetzel
I have a Calvin C. Clayton b. 1846 in Tippah Co. MS, m. Mary Elizabeth
Smith. They had a son, Calvin Mason Clayton b. 1891, m. Dora Hildred Stone.
Another son named Bernie Clayton, b. 1880, m. Nonnie Sanford and they had a
child named Calvin. I don't think the dates fit in with your Calvin, but for
what its worth to you or anyone else on the list...

"Scuse me, but I feel as if I should jump in on these messages just to post

"greats". I am trying to find out who were the parents of the Sampson

a clue.

After further checks, I found that there is an ISAAC CLAYTON in
my family. He was born in the
state of Illinois in about 1836, and he was the son of John (C)? Clayton
who was born in either 1791 in
SC or 1807 SC. This John Clayton was the son of Stephen Clayton, III,
and his wife Mary Davis. John
(C)? Clayton married Nancy Crawford in Hall Co., GA in May, 1830. He and
Nancy moved to Illinois
after 1834. He was the Executor of his fathers' estate (Stephen Clayton,
III). Isaac was their 7th child
according to information that I have.
Sorry about the goof.
Joe
Thank you, Joe.

Bill,
I have seen the name "Shingler", but can't remember where I saw
it. He was not a part of my group
so I probably just passed it off at the time. There is a man in SC that
does research work on Vandy Vastine
Clayton and his group, and he may have something on him - I believe that
he monitors the CLAYTON
GENFORUM. Your William sounds like he may be from the family of
Augustine Smith Clayton, as
Augustine S. Clayton was from the area around Aiken, SC.
Maybe next time I can truly help.
Joe
Alice,
William Clayton, Sr. was born in Rowan Co., NC. His parentage
comes out of Richmond Co., VA.
William, Sr. was the son of Stephen Clayton, Sr., and Stephen Clayton Sr,
was the son of William Clayton.
Stephen Clayton was born about 1703 -1705 in Richmond Co., VA., William
Clayton was born about
1665 in what is now Richmond Co., VA. Apparently, William Clayton was
the son of William Clayton
and Hannah, and William was born about 1630 in England. The name
"William" is found in every single
Generation of this Clayton Family, sometimes several times.
Joe,
I have a William Clinton Clayton in born in Aiken, SC in April of 1872.
He was my great grandfather. His son was Shingler, a not so common name.
He was married to Mary Cullum. Have you run across my William or
Shingler? I can't find anything about WC. Perhaps there are just too many
of us William Claytons out there.
Thanks and best.
William (Bill) Clayton

I don't think so, since my John Clayton was born 1799. If you find anything
pertaining to William Clayton, let me know. The DAR wouldn't accept my
information linking John as William's son. I am trying to find some
information that they will accept.

Of all the Claytons that I have, not a single one is named Isaac.
Now that you mention Hannah Kyle, I now know who you are talking about,
and he is not in my family.
Or, at least I don't think that he is. He married Hannah Kyle around
1788 in Granville Dist., SC. John
Clayton died 15 Nov 1828 in Monroe Co., TN
Joe
This info is very helpful because "my John Clayton" married a Hannah Kyle
and since there are two Hannah's and two John's.. some people with less info
than you have .. have thought them to be the same. I have the Am Rev.
pension application papers for my John Clayton's widow Hannah Kyle with
testimony from her sister Lucinda Avans..
hmmm.. just out of curiosity.. do you have an Isaac Clayton in your line
too?

William Clayton, Sr., who was born 4 Nov 1761 and died on 24
December 1845 in Pickens Co., SC,
was the father of John Clayton, who was born 20 Apr 1799 and died 24 Sep
1846 in Pickens Co., SC.
John's first wife was Elizabeth Hallum, and his second wife's name was
Hannah Linn. This John Clayton
is buried in the Hallum Family Cemetery. This information is contained
in the Hallum Family Bible.
Elizabeth Hallum died before 1830;, and John married Hannah Linn
before 1838. Hannah Linn Clayton died after 1870, and is buried in the
Upper Pickens County, Salem Methodist Church cemetery;
that I now understand is abandoned. Elizabeth Hallum is probably buried
in the Hallum Family Cemetery,
and I believe that there is someone buried there who is named Margarett
Elizabeth Hallum.
Joe Parker
Dolly,
This may be William's father. Up to this point William has been so hard to
track. I am really trying to prove that William is the father of John Clayton
Who was born in 1799 and died in 1846.
I will let you know if I find anything that might be of help to you.
Thanks,
Alice

Dolly,
My family of Claytons, is the William Clayton, Sr. family of
Pickens County, SC. This family of
Claytons has been traced back to England to about 1630, and after that,
they moved to Virginia, as
according to historic papers on file in Virginia. It has not been proven
that my Claytons are part of The
Clayton House of England family group. I have this William Clayton, Sr.
family fairly well documented,
and, yes, there are many "Johns" in there, but I don't believe that the
John you are looking for is in there.
Joe
