Anita, thank you for presenting this page to the listing. I found it quite

Thanks. Interesting piece but I don't think they are any kin to my group. I
don't think we had any go that far north. Probably around North Carolina,
Virginia, Tennessee, here in South Carolina and maybe in Georgia. From what
I have heard, some of the Clayton men had a penchant for trading anything
they got their hands on so theie families never had much in the way of money
or material things.Thanks again

Found an interesting piece about chairmaking, mainly about the Clayton
Shop in Allentown, Monmouth, NJ (near Mercer) at the Allentown town site
http://www.allentownnj.com/allentown/p6.htm Has a bit of Clayton family
information in it. Also Byard. Part of this Clayton-Byard family also
lived in Manalapan for a while. Given names - John A., James H.,

Not much research time for me these days but I did finally find the reference
to Isham H Clayton and his wife Susanna that was posted to the Clayton-L list
last November by jgpark(a)juno.com
the info as posted read:
<<The following was published in the Albany, GA newspaper, and is published
in Vol 1, 1846-1852.
Friday, March 28, 1851
Whereas, my wife, Susannah Clayton, has left my bed and board, without
any just cause, these are therefore to notify all persons not to credit the
said Susannah Clayton on my account as I will not be responsible for any
debts of her contracting.
(signed) Isham H. Clayton, Lowndes County, GA.>>>
So we know Susannah must have died after March 28, 1851. Can any one shed
any further light on where Susannah may have gone? I wonder if the Albany
paper was the only one available to publish this notice in or if perhaps
Susannah had moved to the Albany area from Lowndes Co. where Isham remained.
I wonder if she may have moved in with one of her children from the 3
marriages. She is not with Isham or the Clayton Children I have found in the
1860 census in Lowndes. We have recently learned that the third Brooke
daughter's first name was Alminia. Any one have anyone named Almina living
near the Claytons in 1860 that might be the married daughter of Susannah?
(other than Alminia Clayton daughter of Daniel W. Clayton and Elizabeth
Brooke who was undoubtedly named for her aunt). Susannah may have been
living with her in 1860 and we did not identify her because we did not have
the daughter's name before.
Any thoughts or feed back from any of you would be welcomed. Susannah is an
intriguing lady. Child of an Englishman who left a wife and children in
England to come to S.C. where he had a commonlaw wife Eve Grubbs and 4
children including Susannah. She survived two husbands... and may have
survived Isham H. Clayton for all we know. She had children in all three
marriages. 3 daughters by Samuel Jeter, a son and 3 daughters by Thomas
Brooke and two sons and a daughter with Isham Clayton.
Hope someone out there can toss another piece into this puzzle and see where
it will lead us.
Thanks

Sorry! As if I didn't have any sense. I know that the majority of these
people were at some time in the Polk Co., TN area, and that Violet married
twice, first to Jonas Bates and Second to Frank Brookshire. Anything
else?!?

Hi Clayton List,
Are there any cousins on this list that connects to the Claytons from Pendleton Co. WVa?
I'm researching my Gr.Gr.Gr. Grandfather Jacob Clayton Sr. Born abt 1781 died 1851 in Pendleton Co. WV married Mary Hartman. He came to Pendleton Co. Va(now WV) about 1800. Can't find his marriage date.
>From where I have no idea. Not that I haven't searched trying to find out. He was a tanner and farmer near Kline, Pendleton Co. WV.
His son John Clayton my Gr. Gr. born abt. 1802 Where ? Lived and Died in Pendleton Co. WV married Eliza __?, Can't find a marriage date for him.
Does anyone know of this Clayton Family?
Thanks Sandy

My George W. Clayton was not adopted. He was with his mother Talitia Ellen
Clayton in the 1880 Census for Moran County, Al. She did not name relationship
at that time. But in the 1900 census Ellen is living with him and his family
and she is named as his mother. My mother Alcy Byrd Clayton Curnutt told us
that he was born out of wedlock and the father was never named. I don't feel I
will ever find the father to George W. but am in hopes of finding the family
for Talithia E. Clayton.
