I rechecked the site, and the Solomon's that they list aren't mine - worst
luck. I believe that my Solomon is the one whose father is Charles Clayton
and whose mother is Elizabeth Elbert. I just am unable to find the
connection or any other mention of this Solomon following his birth in 1750
and the 1790 Census. does Edward clayton ring a bell with anyone? He was
named the executor for the children but declined, and, finally, Lodman Elbert
was named guardian. Can you believe it...all this and no father?
Thanks for the assistance.

RootsWeb off the Air for 5-1/2 Hours. If you could not access
RootsWeb between about 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Pacific Standard
Time on Sunday, 23 January, your computer was not at fault.
RootsWeb was off the Web owing to a defective router in one of
the facilities of GST Telecom, our Internet connectivity
provider. Going down during this period of peak usage was
particularly painful as RootsWeb was well on its way to having
the highest traffic day in its history (judging from the usage
trend up until the service interruption). RootsWeb staffers
spent a frantic afternoon and early evening on the telephone
with GST personnel from the GST Chief Operating Officer on down,
pushing to get back online.
This problem is a good example of RootsWeb's vulnerability to
service interruption owing to its sole source connection to the
Internet. We are in the process of bringing online a second
source Internet connection, but doing so will double our monthly
connectivity expenses. Your contributions now literally can help

Help.......................is there anyone out there who is researching the
Eastern Shore, Maryland Clayton's? The names I have so far are John,
Charles, William and Solomon, brothers, with Mary ___ being their mother.
The area appears to be Queen Anne's County and Caroline County, and the
earliest time frame that I can confirm is 1800 with a huge gap for the
previous generation and then, low and behold, all the information in the
world. The dilemma is that I am unable to connect the 1800 to the previous
gen. No name for their father, and with that, no name for the grandfather,
etc. If you have any info would you please help me move backward?
Thanks, Kathi

Milledgeville, GA the son of George Roots (b:20 Dec 1779, Culpeper, VA) and

Clayton-digest,
Here is an interesting article that was published in the Napa,CA
newspaper about people arrested for having stolen skulls removed from a
Carson City,NV Cemetery Crypt Dtd, 7/17/99.
The names of the interned were Patrick Henry Clayton who died in 1874 and
his wife Susan Clayton, who died in 1905, early day Carson City,NV residents.
These were taken from the Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City,NV
It does not state from where they came and I thought some Clayton
genealogist might be their ancestor. My roots are Shaffer,Clayton but none
of my Clayton's were interened in NV.
Some people are gouls.
Clayton Shaffer, CA
I have not checked that out.
Thnaks for the info.

I, too, have an Isaac Clayton. Mine was the son of Robert and Nancy
Clayton. However, I am trying to find the parents of my Robert Clayton who
was born in 1775 in Georgia and his wife Nancy. They were prominent in the
Primitive Baptist church as he was an ordained Primitive Baptist preacher.
They were very closely related to the Jones, Willingham, Wadsworth, Crews,
Jarrett, Thornton, Shaddix, and Duke families. These families all moved
together as new land opened up and were intermarried with one another. We
have been very frustrated in trying to find Robert's family. We believe
that they probably came from the Person County, North Carolina area into
Georgia as the same family names appear in that area. I would sincerely
appreciate any help or hints as to how to find this family. THANKS!!!

I don't know Isaac's parents-- I have him in Little Egg Harbor Twp., NJ in
1830 and then in Howell Twp., Monmouth Cty., NJ in 1850 and 1860.
Based on the Howell Twp. Census info (the most direct connection to my
family), this Isaac Clayton was born about 1800... If you have a match, I'd
love to know about it. Thanks, Gail

While Claytor can be a mistaken reading for Clayton, you have to
be careful. There actually is a Claytor surname that as far as I
can determine has no connection to Clayton.

Thanks for the tip. Clayton is also spelled Claton sometimes.

I thought I had followed one of the early guidelines in searching
names--check all spellings. Well, I did not.
In Census records, I just found an Isaac ClaytoR rather than an Isaac
ClaytoN after months of looking. This may fill in a gap for me...
