Conference In The States
I had a question asked me on another list, so thought I would share with
the many members of this list just for information purposes.
>Question:
>Has anyone attended any genealogy workshops/conferences or the like? I've
>been looking for one, just out of curiosity, but I hate to throw money away-
>can anyone tell me if they're worth it??

I have been to 2 NGS (National Genealogy Society) Conferences over the
years. One in Portland OR and one in Valley Forge PA. There is to be
another one here in Richmond VA in May. I can tell you that I have enjoyed
them very much and gotten information that has sent me in the right
direction on my searches. The speakers are experienced and the lectures
well prepared. I felt my money was well spent. You have a large selection
of things to choose from and then get a syllabus on all the classes that
were given and also can purchse vidio and/or audio tapes of the classes.
The cost of traveling and motels can be expensive but, I for one will go
everytime one is close enough to me or I can come up with the funds to
attend.
I went to a crochet conference in Atlanta last summer and went away shaking
my head because of the lack of quality of the conference and the cost was
high and lectures not well prepared.
Now this is just MHO and I am not connected to the conference in anyway
except that I will be attending. If you would like to know more about this
conference you can go online to see about it.
http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/conference/frame_states.html
I can tell you right now the conference hotel is already booked at the
special price for the conference but has rooms at the higher rate
available. There are some other places near by that still had rooms a
couple weeks ago. I will be staying at Holiday Inn Central (804)
359-9441(ext 560) 3207 North Blvd. Richmond VA. The price was about 70.00
per night and I can supply transporation to a couple folks if you stay
there and we can work out times. It is about 15 minutes from the conference
center. Right now a friend from MD and I are sharing a room. If you are
interested contact me by personal email so we do not clog up the list.

The book you are refering to was done by Henry Hepburn for the State of
Delaware and starts with William the Conquerer and the battle of Hastings
where Robert De Caudebec was given the Manor of Clayton (40,000 acres) for
his services to William in the battle ie the first Clayton ??? Robert became
Robert De Clayton. lt persues the Clayton line down to abt 1800. There are a
few errors in it and many question the accuracy of the descendancy but it is
interesting to read. The Mesa, AZ LDS Family history has a copy as do
several other librarys.

Just wanted to let those of you who are interested in
the book I mentioned . It was read before the Dela-

Trying again, hoping someone new might have a link up. So far I've
been on the list since late Oct. and haven't seen any connections.

.......................................................................
Hi! John! Some of the line of Lambert CLAYTON (1755-1828) has been
researched by James in his book "My Clayton Ancestors" - the one I refer
to in my emails. James did years of research...a wonderful study.
I would love to find out about my Charles Collier Clayton's history -
back to our Samuel, if possible. (Like so many others, too.) I have
quite a bit of info from several other "travelin' cousins" - the ones
who have had a chance to travel to so many of the places with records.
I'll bet the places you mentioned would be neat to visit.
However, it seems my Charles still has a way to go to fill in all the
blanks.
Do stay in touch....
Nancy :-)

Thanks to cousin James Clayton, I have lots of good info. However, none
of us can get the EXACT line from my Charles Collier Clayton back!
Cousin Bill (the one with the web page) has great info - but differences
from Charles Collier back.
Cousin James' book is REALLY great - lots and lots of cousins - but he
too can't get us connected to Samuel (1640). THAT is who I would love to
find out about. Since my posting "Mystery! Virginia Clayton Family of
1700's" I've heard from cousins all trying to get things straight. And,
while I'm on the subject, it is so neat to see that many of us are
working on our line. One of us is BOUND to make the connection - and
that will be an exciting day!
Do stay in touch....and thanks for your email!
Sincerely,
Cousin Nancy Clayton :-)

I have George Clayton (1698-1776) in my line also. Although I have his
death as 1767. I descend through his son George (1723-1786) who would I
guess be Brittian's and Charles' brother. Some research that I have gotten
from others list a Brittian Clayton but not as a brother to Charles and
George, but as a cousin or some kin but he may be a brother.
Someone was asking about Lambert clayton and Sarah Davidson. There is a ton
of info on them in the Buncombe County Historical Society and Henderson County
Historical Society. They are located in Asheville, NC and Hendersonville, NC.
I would be glad to share what meager info I have.

l have mary's parents as John Clayton (Botanist) b:1694 Fulham, Eng
and Elizabeth Whiting b:abt 1695.
James Clayton
Sarah A. Price, dau of William W. Price and Susanna Morgan was married
twice. Her first husband was Joel McCartney; they married before 1860.
Sarah then married John P. Clayton. The 1880 Monongalia Co. census shows
two children: Maud b. abt 1878 and Hood Clayton b. in 1880. Where there
more children? Does anyone have any death dates?? What happened to the two
McCartney children; who did they marry?
Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
You are correct about the History of Orangburg, by Sallye, I believe.
John Clayton is the one who married the widow, Sirrah Fuster. Isom was
also
a member of that church.

I don't claim it to be completely correct. I have been
trying for years to prove any of it to no avail. I know
from the birth, 1755 of Thomas Clayton on to present
day to be correct. The other is interesting. But I never have believed it to
be accurate. Only telling those that may want to look at it and possibly be
able to prove it. We all need to be wary of things
like this. Thanks for pointing this out tho. Marie
I would be wary of any book involving N.J. Claytons that purports to
go back to 1066. I have had correspondence with some who have seen
it, and recall seeing the word "fantasy".
