Hello Pat *and All*,
I've a favor to ask. The reason that I joined this list is because
I am trying to find a CLAYTON/BRIDGES link before 1800
and *probably* in NC or TN. Will you please check your book
to see if my John BRIDGES m/a CLAYTON? And, is there is
any other information on any BRIDGES in your book, I would
greatly appreciate having it. TIA.

Hello!
I have Hetty Clayton, daugher of John Clayton married to Addison "Addie"
Mount. He was born 16 Apr 1798. There was an Addie Mount who had a store and
was first Postmaster of Clarksburg, NJ in 1829. Addie supposedly moved to IL
where he and family settled near Springfield.
Addie was son of William and Rebecca (Cox) Mount.
1. Info from Brent Mount, Dallas, TX.
I'm seeking Mary Clayton who married Thomas Mount in NJ (he was resident of
Middletown, Monmouth Co (most likely) but could have been in Cranbury,
Middlesex Co. Almost immediately after their marriage they removed to
Hunterdon Co. near Amwell where they had a farm. Both Thomas's grandmother
and his grandfather had farms in Hunterdon. It is possible that they were
living on one or the other of these farms. Most of their children were born
in Hunterdon prior to their removal (probably about 1782) to VA where they
purchased land and where Thomas's cousin Humphrey was already settled. They
were in Harrison Co. which is now WVA.
Alvaro Gibbens, who wrote a History of Wood Co. West Virginia during the
eighteen hundreds, referred to Mary and Thomas's daughter Mary who married
John Barnett. He says that Polly Clayton Mount, Mary Mount's mother had
Indiana blood as good as that of the Princess Pochohantas.
I'm going in circles!!!! I recently bought a family book from a Clayton
descendant who had Mary as the daugher of a John Clayton of VA. All children
of that family born in VA with exception of our Mary. Right.....
There were Clayton families in Manasquan and in Hunterdon Co. as well as
Monmouth Co. There is a book in the NJ state library that contains some
information. It's a privately done thing, hand-typed if I remember correctly
and was bound by the library.
There are some Clayton burials listed on my web page at:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4929/genealogy.html
Click on "Our Lines" to get to the page with cemetery info.

New to to the CLAYTON list.

Issue:
ANN L. CLAYTON, b. 1801, d. 12-26-1834, m. 1826, John C. ELY

Anyone researching same or having information please contact me, would
appreciate any help.
