Hi Judy,
I think all the early Claytons in Lawrence Co., TN are connected to (John)
William "Flat River" Clayton. William came to Lawrence County about 1827
from Person Co., NC. He had a son named William, Jr. but I don't have names
of his children. Do you have a copy of the 1850 Lawrence Co., TN census?
All these men should still be living then and listed on this census.
William, Sr. didn't die until after 1850.

Hi Patti,
My Thomas Clayton was born ca. 1751 VA and died 1791 in Edenton, Chowan Co.,
NC on a business trip. He resided in Caswell Co., NC. He married Sarah
Coleman, daughter of Richard and Johannah Coleman.
Thomas' parents were Daniel and Ann (Clarke) Clayton of Hanover/Goochland
Counties, VA. Their land was located on the dividing line for the two
counties. I'm looking for Daniel's parents who may have lived in DE.
Thanks for writing.

Just a note keeplooking Claytons are everywhere, you might watn to look it
over if you have roots in America, The Clayton's are one of the original
families in the 1600's so if you get back that far you will probably find
some.

Hello, fellow CLAYTON researchers.
I am searching for further information on the family of Elisha CLAYTON,
twin of Elijah CLAYTON, born 11 December 1757 in NJ,
probably in Monmouth, Monmouth Co.
He was a Revolutionary War veteran and was held captive
by the British in NY during the last 6 months of 1778.
He married first before 1787 Elizabeth King in Monmouth, NJ
and second in 1793 Elizabeth Little near Hancock, Washington Co., MD
while journeying to settle in what was then Monongalia Co., VA/WV.
He died in 1845 in Marion Co., VA/WV and is buried
in the Cunningham Cemetery in Baxter, Marion Co., WV.
I am descended from his daughter Euphamy/Euphemia from his second
marriage.
_A History of Marion County, West Virginia_ , p126 (1985)
gives the following as ancestors of Elisha and Elijah Clayton:
Parents: David C. Clayton and Sarah Carter
Grandparents: William Clayton III and Mary Marten
Greatgrandparents: William Clayton, Jr. (born England; died PA, 1727)
and Elizabeth Bezer (died 1728)
G-g-grandparents: William Clayton, Sr. (born England, 1641; died PA,
1689)
and Prudence ____?
Two of us, Kim Chance of Houston and I, are working on this CLAYTON family
and would like to correspond with anyone else descended from them.
We are seeking confirmation of this information
and anything else we can find out further back.
Thanks so much for your help.
