Rosemary,
How could I see Jim Clayton's writings?? How could I get in contact with
Ed Clayton???
I may be going down a dead end here, but I think these 2 names together are
too coincidental.
I have a problem - I want to know more about my anscestors on the Clayton
side but, unfortunately, my father has not chosen to remain in contact with
me or my family.
You can imagine how hard researching is with out the help of him!
I know I have a cousin Ed out there some where. Whether he took the
Clayton name or not I am not sure..(I know his father was not in the
picture). My fathers' name is Jim Clayton and his sister is Debbie.
Debbie's son is Ed.
So any info would be really helpful to me.
If you want to email me private, my email is kclayton(a)notes.cc.sunysb.edu
Thanks!
~Kelly~

Hi, Bill:
I don't have any information on your particular line of Claytons,
however, I will be glad to post your request to the Clayton mailing list.
If you would like me to subscribe you to the mailing list, I will be

A very good place to start your genealogical work is to check out Cyndi's
list of genealogical sites on the web at

The 'how to' section might be very helpful to you.
Thanks for your email, and I hope you get some response from the Clayton

Is anyone out there researching the descendants of Stephen CLAYTON, who
emigrated to Philadelphia (from England) in 1806? He & his wife (name
unknown, but I'd love to find it out) had a son named William that year, and
subsequently moved to Brooke Co., VA (now WV), where they farmed near
Wellsburg. William married a local girl named Elizabeth PUNTNEY and in the
1830's they moved to LaSalle Co., IL, where I have records of their numerous
descendants.
I'd be happy to trade information and would like to talk to anyone with any
information on these people! Sandy

Hi Rosemary,
I am a descendant of Daniel and Ann (Clarke?) Clayton too. I am assuming you
have read Jim Clayton's sketch? Or are you acquainted with Ed Clayton, both
are descendants of Daniel & Ann. Which of Daniel's descendants are you
descended from? We are all beating our heads against the wall trying to find
Daniel's origins. Perhaps we could all work together?

Seeking information on Daniel CLAYTON and wife Ann CLARKE. They were
residing in Hanover Co., VA by at least 1740 when Daniel bought land from
Henry WOODS. Their land was on the line dividing Hanover and Goochland
Counties. Need help placing Daniel in a Clayton family. Need names of
parents of Ann CLARKE.
Would like to hear from anyone researching Claytons of early Hanover,
Goochland, Caroline counties, VA and ANY information on ANY Daniel Clayton
from late 1600s to middle 1700s.

Dear Jim:
We need to share info. Isham H. Clayton and Wife Susannah came from Barnwell
Dist. S.C. to Lowndes Co. Ga. Isham was her third Husband. Susannah
married first to Samuel Jeter who died May 1808 and had three daughters.
Susannah married second to Thomas Brooke and they had one son and three
Daughters. I am a descendant of the Son Thomas Tobias Brooke. I have not
identified the oldest Brooke Daugher but the second I believe was your
Elizabeth A. who married Daniel W.Clayton (the main clue to this is their son
named Thomas Brooke Clayton). The Brooke family had a long tradition of
naming the eldest son Thomas Brooke and in the case of daughers the name was
used as first and middle names usually for the first son.
The third Brooke daughter was Sarah who married Jessie Prescott.
Isham and Susannah also had children: Duncan Clayton, Jackson Clayton and
Forma Clayton who married Ransom Prescott (brother of Jessie).
I have also been unable to tie Daniel and Isham H. Clayton together but I am
sure there was a connection. I believe Isham may have been married before
marrying Susannah. They were executors of the Estate of Thomas Brooke and
apparently were sued over debts owed by the estate. From the records I have
collected It appears that they went to Georgia when they had to account for
funds the estate was ordered to pay in the suits.
I believe Isham may have had an earlier marriage and there is a possibility
that Daniel W. Clayton was his son or possibly a nephew but I have nothing
much to go on on that connection yet.
Susannah was the daughter of John Pryor, a mill wright, and his comon law
wife Eve Grubbs. I only made this connection from John Pryor's Estate
papers about a year ago. She had a Sister Elizabeth and two brothers, Tobias
and William.
Susannah died between 1850 & 1860 in Lowndes Co. Ga. I have not been able to
locate a will for either Susannah or Isham and apparently the Lowndes Co.
Courthouse burned so no records are availible. Do you by any chance have a
date of death for Susannah?
Which child of Daniel and Elizabeth do you descend from? I have lots of
information for you on the Brooke family. You are the first contact I have
had with other children of Susannah and would love to add your information.
I have some information on Daniel and Elizabeth's children but mostly from
Pioneers of Wiregrass Ga and some census records.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. This is exciting as I have wanted
to share the Brooke information but just had not made any connections outside
of Thomas Tobias Brooke's descendants.
I have the Brooke family traced back to the immigrant... Robert Brooke,
Colonial Governor of Maryland 1650-1655 and through one of the maternal lines
to Charlemagne.
