You were right about the Goudelock being an unusual name. I seem to have a
connection in my family also but through 2 Anderson brothers whose mother was
a Clayton. As I have found through research, many have married cousins and
such. It is not clear of the 2 Goudelocks are cousin/sisters as they were
born 9 years apart. Here is my connection :

Nicole - I am also looking for a Spartanburg, SC Clayton family. It is
highly possible that this line made its way into AL as well. Mary
Clayton married my Joseph Benson Goudelock. Joseph was b. 21 June 1843,
so Mary would have been born around that same time. Have you ever run
across a Goudelock connection. It is such an unusual name that all
Goudelock's in the US are related to this one family.
Any clues would be appreciated about Mary Clayton. She would be my
gggrandmother.

Do you have source documentation for generations 1-4 for your Clayton
Descendancy chart?
As far as I know, this line has only been proven as far back as William
Clayton (generation V) and his wives Joan Smith and Elizabeth Simmons. A
transcript of this Williams' will now appears on my website.
Thanks for acknowledging my contribution to your research, but I'm
afraid I cannot take credit for most of the dates you have offered as
they have been altered from the form found in the original Quaker
records. Quakers do not use the names of the months and referred to them
only by number. My research reflects dates as found in the Quaker
records and have not been altered.

I have been trying to trace the ancestry of Susannah Clayton, who
married John Young in Newport, RI, 29 Mar 1759. They eventually moved
through Western Mass. and settled in Easton, Washington Co., NY. At
least Susannah did. She was probably born in the 1720's or 1730's. I
have had difficulty in finding any information on her parents. Also,
Ihave had little luck finding any information on Claytons in New
England.
Recently, I found the following from a Website that might offer a clue
to some New England Claytons with whom possible she is related?
I found reference to a Richard Cleayton and Ann Askew who probably came
from Swarthmore, Lancashire, England sometime in the 1660s. His
children came at least. Some of his children stayed in New England
while others moved to Monmouth Co., NJ soon thereafter.
The children were:
Edmund Cleayton , d. 1657 in England
Richard Cleayton, b. 1625, he and 2 sons appears to have gone to NJ, one
daughter appears to have stayed in RI and married.
Ann Cleayton. b. 1627, stayed in RI and married.
Thomas Cleayton, b. 1629. died, after 1650 near Dover, New Hampshire.
John Cleayton, b. 1630, moved to Burlington, NJ. He had 4 wives. Of
his children, it seemed some (males) went to NJ, while at least 1 female
stayed in RI and married.
It seems that the only male that I could see that stayed in New England
what Thomas.
Does anyone know anything about this family or who Susannah Clayton
belongs to or other Clayton families in New England at the time?
Thanks,
Joe

Dear Cousins,
Not many Claytons are to be found in colonial NE and neighboring NY.
My two "kickoff" ancestors served (Peter) in the PA 10th regiment, and
(Jonathan) in the VT Militia. Peter married (in Duanesburg, NY) first
Mary Lyon, then Rachel Abby. Jonathan married Sarah or Susanna Watkins
before the Revolutionary War. Peter's children were born in (then)
Albany Co.,NY. Jonathans were born in Townshend, Windham Co., VT.
One rev war source has Jonathan born in MA. Peter, according to a
biography of his daughter's husband, was born in Dublin, Ireland. These
are incongruent, since it is the older brother (?) who was born in
America.
I have written to National Archives for their military records. Jonathan
is not listed with them, but is included in "Index to Rev. War Serv.
Rec"(1995). Have since sent a query to VT archivist.
Any connections?
