Hello Cathryn, it was with great interest I read your query the other
day.. my wife descends from a william Clayton, born nov. 4, 1761 Va.
married to Elizabeth Langley.. dates unknown.. my wife's father was
named MILES CLAYTON PORTER.... my wife's great grandfather was named
CARTER CLAYTON PORTER..these folks were all up in the Pickins/Oconeee
co. S.C. the Claytons lived in the area of Liberty S.C. William was a
Rev.War. Vet. A fellow by the name of Van Clayton and his sister (can't
remember her name right now)did a great deal of genealogy work on their
and related families, that were located in that area.. I wish I knew for
certain who william's ancestors were.. I have seen information that says
they were possible connected to a Va. Clayton family, but I sure don't
know.. would like to hear back from you.. Cal McBroom Atlanta, Ga.

I wonder if your William is William Willis Clayton son of John and
Elizabeth Willis Clayton. William would have been born abt that time in the
Charlotte, Gloucester area of Va. I do not have an exact date of birth or
marriage record on him though. I have the ancestery of the above Robert and
William Clayton. The sons of Thomas the son of Samuel Clayton set in cement
and looking for their descendants. James Clayton

We have documented our Claytons to South Carolina. Part of the family-- I
believe a Robert Carter Clayton went to GA and some of his children went to
TN. I have some 1964 correspondence from a Vallie Clayton in Etowah (sp?)
TN. I have not seen the names you mention: Robert P. and William F.
Family lore says that the SC Claytons came from VA and are descendants from
a John Clayton who came from England with his cousin William. I would like
to know more about the VA Claytons.

Catherine,
In my Clayton data base I have a Robert Coleman Clayton who appears to have
gone to SC from Culpeper, VA. He married Elizabeth Wyatt, 30 Jun 1840. I
have not had time to trace him forward but he is the son of Samuel Clayton.
He had an ancestor Philip Clayton who went to GA abt 1795 to a war sarvices
land grant. I have a few copies of a book that I am in the process of
printing that lists the descendants of Atty Gen John Clayton, specifically
his son Samuel down to myself, of whom I am descended from, as I have
researched. I can send it for 25 dollars. I do not have a Robert Carter
listed but have several thousand Claytons in my computer. The book centers
around the Culpeper, Va Claytons.
Do you have any approximate dates for your John Clayton and William from
England?

I am searching for my son-in-laws gg-grandfather Dewitt Clayton. The
place and date of his birth is unknown, as are the name of his parents.
He married Willie Mae Martin in Blackshear, Pierce county GA before
1896.. their only son, Louie Lee
Clayton was born 12-22-1896. According to the family Dewitt wanted to
relocate to A) Florida, B) Texas, and Wille Mae wanted to stay in GA.
They were divorced, and Dewitt was never heard from again.
Can anyone help find Dewitt and his family?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I do have information about
Dewitt's descendants to share.
Thank you,
