Hi,
I don't know Deborah but my gg grandfather was Stephen A. Clayton. Could
they be the same? b.march 35, 1835 d.Feb.24,1899. He was in Ga. for the
Civil War.
P.Rabon 4366
The information which we have on our Stephen A. Clayton is as follows:
born 1828 in Georgia, died after 1880.
Married:
1. Emily Shadix, my gg grandmother. They had two children: Emmeline
Jane Clayton and Tommy Clayton. My great uncle Thomas Stephen Raford
Jarrett, youngest son of Emmeline Jane Clayton (born 9-Aug-1848,
Barnesville, Lamar Co., GA, died 22-Sep-1901, Cass Co., TX) and William
Raford Jarrett (born 26-Jun-1848 in Georgia, died 10-Mar-1909, Hensley,
Pulaski Co., Ark), said Tommy was mayor of Barnesville, GA at one time,
but we have no proof of this. And we have found that all of Uncle
Stephen's notes which we passed on to one of his granddaughters do not
prove out. Emily was born about 1824 in Georgia and was of Danish
descent, according to Uncle Stephen.
2. Elizabeth Cash. I think there were four children of this marriage.
Cash E. Clayton, son of Elizabeth and Stephen, may have been the only one
to live to adulthood. He married Laura Tidwell, who was the daughter of
Sarah Jarrett (sister to William Raford Jarrett above) and Henry Tidwell.
Both Henry and Sarah are buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery across from Mt.
Carmel Methodist Church in Henry Co., GA, along with the mother of Sarah
Jarrett Tidwell, Sarah Wright Jarrett, and two sisters, Mary Susan
Jarrett Strickland, and F. Catherine (Kitty) Jarrett. A son of Henry and
Sarah Tidwell, Thomas (I think) and his wife Eula, are also buried there.
Evidently, Elizabeth Cash was much respected and admired by the
descendants of William Raford Jarrett and Emmeline Jane Clayton, because
one of their daughters (Susie Jarrett Putman) named her son Cash E.
Putman.
3. Molly Burns. No children were born to this marriage.
Emmeline Jane Clayton and William Raford Jarrett came with their family
to Texas and settled in Cass County around 1881, when my grandfather,
William Jefferson Jarrett (their oldest son) was about 11-12 years of
age.
I do not have birth and death dates before me for several of these since
I am looking at an ancestor printout. If you think there is a
connection, I will try to provide additional information.

Does anyone know Deborah L. Clayton of Columbus, OH? I communicated with
her a few times on AOL several months ago. However, when I tried her AOL
email not long ago, it bounced (ClayDL(a)aol.com). I wondered if she might
be a subscriber to this list.
She thought she might have some information on my gg grandfather, Stephen
A. Clayton, of Barnesville, Pike/Lamar Co., GA.
I would love to make contact with her by email if possible.

To Pat Rabon:
Have you found Stephen A. Clayton in any of the NC censuses after his marriage? Usually censuses are good for finding out kids' names. Also, have you looked for Clayton families in NC in the 1850 census, when Stephen would be abut 15? That would give you his parents, and if you're lucky, other Clayton relatives living nearby (sometimes grandparents lived with the family).
The Family TreeMaker FamilyFinder Index at
http://www.familytreemaker.com/srchzz.html
turns up the following on a search for "Clayton, Stephen". These are only the listings I thought looked relevant (for NC and GA); there appears to be another Stephen Clayton family in SC throughout the decades, which I didn't include here.

Lookup volunteers for these CDs are found on this page:
http://www.seidata.com/~lhoffman/cdlist.html
PLEASE read the rules and follow them carefully to avoid overwhelming the volunteers.
The response from the volunteer will give you the actual marriage data for a marriage, but will only give you the index entry for a census (i.e. county, township, page number). It's still up to you to order the actual census through your local LDS FHC or through the NARA library lending program at your local library (usually much slower).
Hope this helps,
Holly
