Okay that makes some sense. There were some conflicts as to date with Joseph and locations. I had both states for where he was born.
Thanks for the help! I've contacted Sam already to take a look at my tree to see if anything clicked with him. Had hit a roadblock a few years back when I had wrong info on a Claypool. Got new info and got back on track though!
This helps a lot!

According to Sam Claypoole's 2002 edition, Joseph Claypool(e) was born in TN (probably taken from a census, so VA may well be correct) and he married Caroline POGUE in 1849. Sam lists their 10 children, the 2nd being William R Claypool born Apr 1852 (from 1901 census). Sam's census search has Joseph enumerated as follows: 1850-Grainger, TN; 1860-Benton, AR; 1870-Greene, MO; 1880-Dade, MO and 1900-Cedar, MO.
Again, according to Sam, Joseph (1825-1906) was the son of Joseph Claypool(c1770-<1840-who married at least 3 times) and Rebecca Sanders. When she died c1839 in Grainger, TN, her 3 underage children were "bound out, according to the law". Sam lists Joseph Sr. on the following censuses: 1810-Kanawha, VA and 1830-Grainger, TN.
Evelyn Bracken et al's work has Joseph(c1770-<1840) as the son of Joseph (1735-1790) who died at Greenbrier, VA (now WV).

Y-DNA analysis confirms the connection between a father and his natural born son, and so on through the earlier male line. Therefore, your son's YDNA 'signature' will be that of his father, and not of an earlier male in his mother's descent line

I am researching my family and am a bit stumped right now. I am trying to find out more about William R. Claypool (he dropped the E at the end at some point) who was one of the sons of Joseph Claypoole. Dates I have are as follows:
Joseph Claypoole
Born May 6, 1825 in VA
Died March 30, 1906 in Grundy, Missouri
Joseph was married to Caroline Claypool(sorry I have no maiden name at this time) who was born in March of 1832. It looks like they were married in 1849 in TN. William R. Claypool was one of their sons.
William R. Claypool
Born about 1853 in Arkansas
I do not have a date of death as yet.
William was married to a Mary J. Lowery or Brazee (I'm still trying to find which was the original maiden name at this time) in 1875. She was born in about Nov. of 1853 in Missouri.
If anyone has some info out there on them or their parents, I'd appreciate the help!

I am a bit curious if this would work on a male descendant who comes from a female. I am a female granddaughter of a female descendant of from one of the Claypool line. I'd like to see if we do match up or not. Could my son be tested?
