I have already sent this info to Sam Claypoole. If you would like to read a copy of James Claypoole's obit go to USGenWeb Philadelphia site and look under posted obituaries (which by the way I have posted on this site if you would have looked!!!!) You will find James' obit and also that of his second wife Mary Chambers Claypoole.
We all make mistakes. I have made my share, but I will at least try to correct mine. I have contacted other with info and they totally ignored it. If we keep copying the wrong info over and over our descendents are not going to have thier true genealogy. So yes I do feel strongly about the mess on-line.

You are so right Kathy, there is alot of mis info out there. Most give proof as coming from someone else. I have spent close to 35 years on this line and have a large pile of info, I have tried to verify what I can back into England. This is true in all cases of genealogy. I have passed some of my info along only to have it claimed as theirs or twisted, so I no longer do that or post online. I will share freely if asked for specific info and state if its documented or not. So becareful and CHECK, and often info is found in history books not always gen..
Strong I don't think so.
Barbara

So why don't you post the exact details of the obit you found and share the correct info. Scan this and send it me at g.claypool(a)insioghtbb.com and Sam Claypoole at sclaypoole(a)aol.com who has been compiling and correcting data for 25 years. We all would love to have the corrections you have found instead of get blasted. Hope this isn't to strong either.

Don't go by any information you find on line, unless they can give documented proof. The best thing you can do is your own research. I am a descendent of James Claypoole, Sr. of Philadelphia b. 1720 s/o Joseph and Rebecca Jennings Claypoole. Every place you look on line or in any Claypoole book it will state he died in Jamaica. This is wrong!!! I found his obituary in a Philadelphia Newspapers. He is buried at St. Paul's Church, Philadelphia. It was a younger James Claypoole who died in Jamaica and according to the autobiography of Charles Wilson Peale he is the son of James Sr. of Philadelphia not James Claypool of Armstrong County, PA. of whom I am descended. So now I am trying to sort the two James' out so I will know exactly who I am descended from. If you recieve information from someone make sure they give a reference such as a will, deed, baptism, etc. Just because it is in a book or on line doesn't mean it's true. Sorry if this comes across too strong, I just want you!
to have the correct information. There is too much wrong info out there.

I would like to make a correction to the above message. Joseph was married to Rebecca Jennings not White. It was his son James m. to Rebecca White. I found James' obit in Phil. newspaper. He died 21 September 1784 and is buried at St. Pauls. He did not die in Jamaica. He was probably confused with James Claypoole the Artist who died in Jamaica. James' second wife Mary Chambers died Philadelphia 4 August 1796 per Newspaper Obit.
