Sorry for the length of this message.
I have finally broken down a brick wall only to have another pop-up. I’m hoping someone can help me out or at least give me some suggestions.
My great-uncle Hilmar Hansen was incorrectly transcribed under the wrong spelling of his last name in the 1920 & 1930 Census. In 1920 Census (last name spelled Hannen) he’s listed at 108 Crown Point Road, Westville, NJ with the following info:
108 Crown Point Road, Westville, NJ
Himar Hansen, husband - age 31 -born 1889- Place of Birth = Norway- Emigrated 1907 - To Phila, PA, - Occupation = machinist/Electric Batteries - Owns home.
Sophia Hansen, wife - age 31 - born 1889 – Place of Birth = Massachusetts - occupation listed as none.
Louisa Stroyer – mother-in-law - Age 51 – born 1869 – Place of Birth = Schleswig Germany – Emigrated 1886 - occupation = none
Phyliss Hansen – daughter – Age 3 – Place of Birth = Pennsylvania
Then there’s these young “boarders” as follows:
Gertrude Bensen (Benson) Age 9 Birth = Pennsylvania Dad Birth = USA Mom Birth=USA
Rose Bensen (Benson) Age 7 Birth = Pennsylvania Dad Birth = USA Mom Birth=USA
Harry Claypool Age 9 Place of Birth = New Jersey Dad Birth = NJ Mom Birth = Ohio
Ryan Williams Jr Age 8 Place of Birth = New York Dad Birth = NY Mom Birth = NY
Kathryn Maloy (Malloy) Age 1 – Place of Birth = New Jersey Dad Birth = PA Mom Birth = PA
Question #1 - Not sure why they had all these young children living with them without the parents listed as also living there. The house isn’t listed as an orphanage so why would there be all these underage boarders? Were there Foster Homes in Westville, NJ in 1920?
Question #2 – Louisa Stroyer – mother-in-law. I can’t locate Louisa coming into the USA around 1886. I’m assuming she lived in Massachusetts as her daughter Sophia (e) was born there around 1889. I would think Louisa would have come to Mass with her maiden name and then gotten married to a Mr. Stroyer? I can’t find any Stroyer (or sounding like Stroyer) in Mass. that matches up to the dates for Louisa and her daughter Sophia (e) or, my eyesight is getting bad and I missed them.
Question #3 – Why would someone’s parents Birth Place be listed as USA as were Gertrude & Rose Bensen’s?
Next puzzle:
1930 Census – Hilmer Hansen (last name spelled Hamen)
307 West Center Street, Woodbury, NJ
Hilmer Hansen – head of household – machinist Born Norway
Sophia Hansen – wife – occupation = dress maker in Dress Factory Born Masssachusetts
Phyliss Hansen – born 1917 – at school
Katherine M Hansen – born 1919 – at school – Born NJ / Dad Birth = Norway Mom Birth =Mass.
Margaret Schoch – Boarder - dress maker in Dress Factory- born abt 1879 – Place of Birth = NJ Dad Birth = NJ Mom Birth =NJ
Question - Not sure if this is the same Kathryn Hansen from the 1920 Census above whose last name then was Maloy (Malloy). Maybe she was adopted by Hilmer & his wife Sophia or they recorded her incorrectly as a Boarder on the 1920 Census?
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Pattie

Let's see where to begin. Albert is buried in McPherson, KS, with his wife and mother Abigail. Abigail was William's 3rd wife. Our cousin, Shirley Ferrell and another, placed a grave marker for Abigail a coiple of years ago, since none ever was there. I have picture of the grave sight if you wish to have them. I would prefer to mai them. Contact me at my email address for a private address communication if you wish. You also list my grand father and and father in your info, being Joseph Stanly Claypool and Wilbur Spencer Claypool respecfully. Cousin Shirley's Grandfather was Milton Haney and Fay Leroy respectfully.
Looking forward to hearing from either this board or directly by email.
See ya Gregory Stanton Claypool
