My wife is a descendent of George S. Claypool. B. 1825, Married to Nancy Penelope Hinchman. I have in my family tree as many of the descendents as I can come up with but I do not know who is the father of George S. I know of two versions of who George's father is and I will present them to you.
I will start with:
Generation
1. James Claypool B. 6-12-1664 MAR. Mary Cann
2. James Claypool B. 2-14-1700\01 MAR Jane Byrd
3. Joseph Claypool B. 1735 MAR Abagail Osborn
ONE SIDE
4. Ephraim Claypool B. 8-8-1763 MAR Lucinda (Lucy) Arbaugh
5. John D. Claypool B. 1797 MAR Catherine Shuck
6. George S. Claypool B. 1825 MAR Nancy Penelope Hinchman
THE OTHER VERSION
4. Joseph Claypool B. 1768 MAR Elizabeth Curry
5. John Claypool B. 1792 MAR Rebecca Shafer
6. George S. Claypool B 1825 MAR Nancy Penelope Henchman
I am hoping that every one that is doing research on the Claypool family will write to me and tell me their version of who is the father of George S. Claypool. Please tell me why you think that your version is correct and give documentation if you have any. If you are researching George's family, than you know that there is definitely a controversy in who George's father is. I am hoping that will you do anything that you can to help in solving this problem? We may never find the truth, but there may be some one in or out of the family that know's exactly who is the father of George. We must try to solve this problem to help Claypool researchers for our generation and for future generations.
Please excuse any minor differences in birth and marriage dates that you have that are different from mine.
I will reply to everyone that sends me information by email or or snail mail. Remember to send any documentation that will help you prove that your version is correct.
Thank You for any and all help.

Sam Claypoole's News Note #23 notes that there is some doubt as to the
mother of Hiram M. Claypool. Following is an explanation of some of
the doubts. Hiram is my direct line (3rd gr-grandfather) and I would
appreciate any and all comments regarding Hiram M. Very little
documentation has been found for him. He is last found in Berrien
Co., Michigan in the 1840 census, and his son's pension records
indicate that he died about 1844, but no record of death or location
of burial has been located. Corrections, comments and additions
regarding the following will be appreciated.
"HIRAM M.CLAYPOOL: Earlier publications and other researchers'
records indicate that Hiram's birth occurred in 1819 in Virginia, the
first child of his father's third marriage. The 1840 census puts his
age between 20-30. If he was born in 1819, this would place his age
at 20 years on the date of the census. By 1820 the family was in
Tennessee, (probably Grainger, Co.), where the birth of Hiram's
brother, John, occurred. Cass Co., Michigan land records show that
Hiram left the family and moved to Michigan sometime before April 3,
1832, when he purchased property in the village of Cassopolis. Since
a birth year of 1819 would make Hiram a 13 year old land owner at this
time, one must be suspicious of the recorded year of birth. It has
previously been assumed that Rebecca Sanders, third wife of Joseph,
was the mother of Hiram. However, if Hiram's birth year is incorrect,
he could possibly be the son of second wife, Margaret Hanley."
Questions:
1) Can anyone confirm the date\location of death of Joseph Claypool
(b. 1768, Hardy Co., VA)? Believe location of death might have been
Grainger Co., TN.
2) Does anyone have a death date/location of wife #2, Margaret
Hanley?
3) Any information about Rebecca Sanders (wife #3), born abt. 1800?
Grainger Co., TN court records indicate that Rebecca's children were
orphans in December, 1839.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on this line,
any and all clues will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
