Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Got it! Thanks. Will have to check my program - since I can't tell which James
b. 1701 they are referring to. I have to have everything right in front of me

Okay, thought I had done that, but will try again. I had corresponded with her
quite some time ago and don't recall how much info I had given her and was just
checking. Thanks.

Sam Claypoole at SClaypoole(a)aol.com has much Claypool
information. He provided me with the first name (Aaron) of my
brick wall Claypool in Eden Township, Licking County Ohio (All I
had was the widow's name) and much more! He is working to
publish what he has. He also has a list of Claypool researchers
who have provided information to him.
I don't think he would mind hearing from you guys who are stuck
and might have an immediate answer to some of your questions!

successful one in the country. He and my gggrandmother were cousins. She was
born in Musk. but they moved into Licking Co.

Hi All,
I've been lurking on this list for a while, with the roll call I will put out my 2 cents worth and see if there are any amongst us who are researching my Claypool connections.
I am descended from both Joseph and Hannah Claypool, two children of James and Lucretia Claypool who moved to Armstrong Co. PA in the late 1790's. Here is the family:
1. JAMES CLAYPOOLE (JAMES5, JOSEPH, JAMES3, JOHN, ADAM) was born Abt. 1743 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, and died Bef. June 12, 1813 in Buffalo Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. He married (1) LUCRETIA GARWOOD March 08, 1763 in Christ Church, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, daughter of SAMUEL GARWOOD and REBECCA CROSBY. She was born June 22, 1742 in prob. Burlington Co, Provence of West Jersey, New Jersey, and died 1796 in Claypoole Block House below Kittanning, Armstrong Co., PA. He married (2) UNKOWN Aft. 1800. She died Aft. 1813.
Children of JAMES CLAYPOOLE and LUCRETIA GARWOOD are:
i. JAMES CLAYPOOLE.
ii. JOHN CLAYPOOLE, b. Bef. 1766, ?; d. Dead, prob killed by Indians when a child.
iii. GEORGE CLAYPOOLE, b. 1766, Armstrong Co, PA; d. 1858, ?; m. MARY ANN CAMPBELL, Unknown, ?; b. Unknown, ?; d. Dead, ?.
iv. HEZEKIAH CLAYPOOLE, b. June 12, 1768, ?; d. September 23, 1844, ?; m. LUCINDA MCCUNE, Unknown, ?; b. Unknown, ?; d. Dead, ?.
v. JOSEPH CLAYPOOLE, b. Abt. 1771, Delaware; d. Abt. 1858, Bethel Twp., Armstrong Co., PA; m. CATHARINA ELISABETHA OURY; b. September 04, 1779; d. Abt. 1839, Bethel Twp., Armstrong Co., PA..
vi. SAMUEL CLAYPOOLE, SR., b. 1772, PA?; d. 1863, PA?; m. SARAH CAMPBELL, Unknown, ?; b. Unknown, PA?; d. Dead, PA?.
vii. JEHU CLAYPOOLE, b. 1774, ?; d. 1854, ?.
viii. DAVID CHAMBERS CLAYPOOLE, b. January 05, 1779, prob Evesham Top, Burlington Co, NJ; d. April 03, 1856, ?; m. ELIZABETH CLAYPOOLE, Unknown, ?; b. Unknown, ?; d. Dead, ?.
ix. HANNAH CLAYPOOLE, b. October 24, 1784, PA; d. 1850, after census to May 1856, Armstrong Co, PA; m. JAMES CAMPBELL, Bet. 1800 - 1802; b. Abt. 1780, PA; d. 1861, Armstrong Co, PA.
x. JAMES CLAYPOOLE III, b. Unknown, ?; d. Dead, ?; m. SARAH, Unknown, ?; b. Unknown, ?; d. Dead,
I still have plenty of holes to fill in here and would welcome any assistance in confirming with primary souces. I do have Evelyn Claypool Bracken's volume which includes this family, I just haven't updated my data yet.
Regards,
Mike Stewart
Wow! I get this list in "digest" form and this is the most activity I've seen! I
Kind of think I'm still up against the brick wall. .I don't have a Norton anywhere,
and I know he's not the same one that married Mary Fravel, since they were both
having kids in different states at the same time. .. Here is some more info on my
Levi:
In 1820 Census, Urbana, Champaign, Ohio: Levi Claypole age between 16-26 +1 female
between 10-16. [Melinda was young when they got married; this puts his birth between
1793 and 1803]
During 1820-1826, they 3 kids in Ohio: Catherine, Elizabeth, and Thomas R.
-1827 they went to Illinois, originally it was Sangamon County, then the land they
were on became Menard County when it was formed...
-1830 Census, Sangamon Co,IL: he is age 30-40 [birth 1790-1800]
-the rest of their children were born in Illinois: William 1831, Cassinda 1833,
Eliza Jane 1838, Barbara Anna 1845.
-There were several "Claypole" people around that area of Ohio at the right time,
but I can't find any connections to my Levi, to claim a brother, father, uncle, etc.
The information on his birth in W. VA seems to only be found in the "vanity" history
books of the last century, but nothing to back them up, although in both the 1850 +
1860 Census [Menard Co,IL] he said he was born in Virginia.
-Thanks for any help, even if it's only eliminating possibilites!
-Janet
I'm not certain where William R. Claypool was born: the info. I have on him
is birth: 1840, death 1925. I believe that he met and married his wife
Philena M. Perham) in Berrien County, Michigan. That is where they
remained, as did their son, Glen A. Claypool, Sr., and many of their
descendants.

I'm interested in THIS John Claypoole, too -- I'm trying to find out about
his siblings and/or parents. There is supposedly a connection and I'm
attempting to fill in the missing generations between John (born 1752) and
William R. Claypool born 1840. I have a newspaper article about William R.
Claypool's wife, Philena (Perham) Claypool. It is dated 1928 and, in an
interview with her, she comments on the relationship between her husband and
John (husband of Betsy Ross). Unfortunately, I don't have the missing
links! As far as I know, John and Betsy only had daughters -- I'm trying to
determine if John had brothers who might possibly be the direct ancestors
for which I am searching.
I'd appreciate any and all help!!! Thanks.
