I have never tried to trace that line farther back yet, been climbing other
branches. However, from what I am looking at Miller was her name from a first
marriage. I have her parents as John and Charity Vandike.
This information is from a book Entitled Archives of the Pioneers of Tazewell
County Virginia. The book list Charity Claypool as dying on December 30, 1855,
in Tazewell County of Dropsy. The book lister her as being 64 years, and
sixteen days old. The book also lists the parents as John and Charity
Vandike. The informant was Jeremiah B. Claypool (son)
If you should come across any further information and are willing to share, I
would appreciate it.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Karen
Sorry It seems I failed to mention that my Claypool's were from Tazewell
County Virginia. However, I do know that some of them did go West. However, I
did not follow that line as my line descended in Tazewell County Virginia.
Most still reside there today.
Again, my apologies for any confusion.
Karen
Hello Lois:
Thanks for dropping a line. I'm always interested in finding new cousins.
Keep my E-mail address, if I can be of any help in the future just let me
know. Most of my family still resides in the tazewell county area and I
return quite often.
Happy Holidays Cousin
Karen

Hello from another cousin. My 4th ggrandmother was Rebecca Claypool half

I too have seen the graves.
Though I live in Ohio I was born in Tazewell county and come home often.
I guess we have the same information but I just wanted to say hello.

HI Cousin Karen!
I posted to Jeremiah and Mary Brown....Their daughter Matilda married David Steele....They had one son Jeremiah Wilkerson Steele...as David
died after being married only a year or so. Jeremiah W. Steele married Martha Lockhart and they had a number of children...One of which was
George Washington Steele who married Margaret Kilgore and had Sterling Price Steele...their firstborn...He was my Grandfather and married
America Lizzie Lykins ( I am named after her...real name is Elizabeth)....Their son James W. Steele is my Dad and he married several times....His
fourth wife is my mom....Grace Steele....(Schollard)...and now there is myself and my brother...Would you like more on this part of the family as I
have much more....I must not have been paying attention when I was typing in my FTM as I know that Jeremiah was buried in Tazewell...Duh! It
would probably help if I read what I posted!
I don't have the information on the second marriage...I am not sure I even realized he (Jeremiah) was married twice....I would love to add it to my
little chart! By the way did you see the posting regarding the William Byrd's Secret diary....? On my Lockhart side I descend from "Bird"
Lockhart...or Byrd....There were sure a lot of them flying around at that time! LOL...However, Jane Byrd an ancestor came from England so
there must be a Byrd connection to this old guy named William Byrd...
Happy Holidays Cuz,
Jodi
One cousin to another: Looks like you found a cousin.
I have read your posting and found a discrepancy. You have Jeremiah Claypool,
son of Joseph and Abigail Osborne Claypool as dying in Kentucky. I have the
following:
Jeremiah was born in Hardy County Virginia. Married twice. 1st Mary Brown &
2nd Charity (Miller) Van Dyke.
I have children from second marriage if you would like just let me know.
Jeremiah died in Tazewell County Virginia, and is buried at Claypool Hill
Virginia in Greenhills Memory Garden. The cemetery is fairly modern except
for one small section. In this section are older graves. I know that there is
a grave marker for Jeremiah, Charity and an Ephram Claypool. It is said that
Jeremiah and his brother James first settled in Tazewell County in what is
today called Claypool Hill. James daughter Phebe was one of the first persons
married in the newly formed county of Tazewell. Her grave is in Cedar Bluff
Virginia which is just a few miles down the road.
I am glad to share any information I have. By the way I am descended via
Jeremiah and Charity Claypool who had a daughter named Amy who married James
Compton.
James Compton and Amy Claypool had a daughter named Lavina Compton who married
John Keene. John Keene and Lavina Compton had a daughter named Thursa Keene
who married a James Harvey Bird. James Harvey Bird and Thursa Keene had a
daughter named Ruthie Bird who married Columbus Hill. Columbus Hill and
Ruthie Bird had a son named James Daniel Hill who married Maureen Muriel
"Harman" Bragg. James Hill and Maureen Bragg's daughter is me Karen Hill
The information on Jeremiah and Charity comes from a book Archives of the
Pioneers of Tazewell County Virginia. Though much of my fathers family still
resides in and around Tazewell County Virginia I have been to and seen the
actual grave markers for Jeremiah, Charity, and Ephram. P.S. I am typing this
without my notes in front of me I hope I have the spellings correct.
