Listers: I am looking forward to connecting to anyone living in
Ontario, or elsewhere, that may be connected to this pair. My direct
line stems from a daughter: Charlotte Claydon...bn Jan 25, 1843,
Ashley-cum-Silverley, Cambridge, England; dd Sep 23, 19 12, Wainfleet
Twp, Welland Cty.; Ont. Canada. who md John Zimmerman: bn June 10,
1827: of Marburg, Hessen - Nassau, Preussen, Germany; dd Mar 20, 1908:
ae 81 Wainfleet Twp, Welland Cty, Ont. Canada
This is the most accurate info so far on my Charlotte.
Father: [4xgf] *John "Henry" Claydon [Claiden][C]: bc 1805, dc Dec. 21,
1879, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada...md Oct. 24, 1823...
Mother: [4xgm] Mariah Woodward[C] not Woodworth: bc 1808, dc Mar. 13,
1868, Wainfleet, Ontario, Canada [at daughter Lousia's]
Siblings: Hannah, Maria/Mary, Joseph, Walter, Prescilla/Priscilla,
George, Louisa, John Woodward Sr., Charlotte, Ruth Woodward, John?,
Lucy Ann, Lucy...
I am looking for:
1. John Henry Claydon's, back ground lineage: appears to be James
Claiden and Mary Sowter...but need better confirmation...apparent
siblings...Willam and Mary...Ashley/Silverly, Cambridg, Eng.
2. Mariah Woodward/Woodworth's back ground lineage... Woodward has been
encorporated into her children's names, but Woodworth is on her death
registration, that explaines some of the problem... She may have come
from ...Ashley/Silverly, Cambridg, Eng.
3. Charlotte's Siblings and there respective families...I have their
birth dates...and origin would be as parent's ... need Ontario info...
4. evidence of her mother's death: found stone only, in Wainfleet,
Ontario, but no registration, in Ontario: bn c 1780, England
5. evidence of her mother's parents' info, and beyond
6. evidence of her father's parent's info and beyond
Thanks for all your hard work...in getting me this far along...

Looking for CLAYDON/CLAIDEN and WOODWARD/WOODWORD/WODERD/WODARD/ etc.,
of Ashley Cum Silverley, Cambridge, England
I have just about given up finding my [4xgm] Maria's parents...and
anything substantive on Henry's parents.
If anyone is going near a location, the PRO, or whatever, and could do a
quick look up for the following marriage...
Henry Claiden/Claydon [chr 01/02/1801] md Maria Wooderd ( Woodward ) [bc
1805] md: 24/10/1824 at Ashley cum Siverley, Cambridge, England...
They apparently had a whole bunch if kids, but they too have dropped off
the map...all but two have been found...any insights or assistance would
be thankfully received...
1. Joseph, bc Feb. 17, 1828 < disappeared
2. Walter, bc July 04, 1830 < disappeared
3. Louisa, bc July 19, 1835 < disappeared
4. John Woodward Claydon, bc June 22, 1840...he turns up in Ont., Canada
5. Charlotte Claydon, my [3xgm] bc. Jan. 25, 1843...she turns up in
Ont., Canada
6. Ruth Woodward Claydon, bc Dec. 25, 1844 < disappeared
7. John Claydon, bc Feb. 01, 1846...not sure if he is of this family,
but data seems to fit... < disappeared
8. Lucy Ann Claydon, bc July 02, 1847 < disappeared
The main problem with "disappearances" is that there are so many
Woodwards and derivations, that trying to find the "right" one is
impossible, without some further guidance. I have scanned the web for
any Woodwerd, Woderd, Wodard, Woodword and Woodworth, that would fit
this bunch...with special attention to Cambridge, England...and Ashley
Cum Silverley, Cambridge, England specifically.
Henry's parents are thought to be James Claiden and Mary Brewster
possibly of Ashley Cum Silverley, Cambridge, England...but even that is
iffy!...bummer...
Kindest regards, and thanks in advance...Al

It appears that the CLAYDONS, Henry and Maria Woodword-Cladyon, first settled in Elgin Cty, Yarmouth Twp, Ontario, Canada. With them may have been one or more of their children: Joseph Claydon, Walter Claydon, Louisa Claydon, John Woodward Claydon, *Charlotte Claydon, Ruth Woodward Claydon, John Claydon [not sure], Lucy Ann Claydon. At least three are known in Ontario as having records here. Charlotte, Louisa, and John Woodward...the others have not been found yet, or remained in England. Another scenario would be that the parents may have returned to England once these three got settled, taking the others back with them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
My [3xgm] Charlotte Clyden, age 20, b.c. 1842, England; emigrated to Canada shortly before December 2, 1862, her recorded marriage date; d/o Henry and Mariah Clyden; no details as to origin available. Henry may have been born about 1818 and Mariah may have been born about 1822 [LDS dates], marrying around 1840. My grandfather's middle name was Claydon, [1xgf] John Claydon Thompson, and his grandmother's tombstone inscription says "Charlotte Claydon." A fresh English accent to an older North American ear may have caused the Clyden to sound like Claydon, and custom my have caused the "new" name to stick. I am interested in the Claydons only, at this point, unless you can provide additional info on their mates.

<>I would be grateful for any Claydon researchers to join in and assist.
This is all the info that has been found on this side of the pond, for
those who are interested. I would be especially grateful for "family"
still in the area or, or who have ties to, Ashley Cum Silverley,
Cambridge, England, to assist. I have downloaded a fair number of
Claydons from there, but sorting them will be a challenge. If anyone has
already done that and does not mind sharing their work, I would also be
grateful for the helping hand. Hope of hopes, is that someone would have
these folks in a GEDCOM, including all of the England entries. I can add
the Canadian entries and send the amended GEDCOM back to them. The
Claydons were not prolific here, but there are a few.
Very grateful regards, Al Dempster

All the info was from the IGI as it is impossible to have all the copies
of baptisms marriages and burials from every parish (I do have copies of
Birth marriages and deaths from 1911 to 2004 but you would need to order
certificates for the information).
On my site you can list the surname of interest and an area you are
researching the family so others may contact you for info and hopefully
help you as well.
The Woodworth name could have many spelling variations as
standardization in spelling didn't occur until after the 1890's (as far
as I am aware not a professional in this field).

c. 1835 are my direct lineal ancestors. Their daughter Charlotte, was my
grandfather John Claydon Thompson's grandmother. There were believed to
have lived in, and been married in, Uttoxeter, Stafford, England. But I
had no way to attest to that...primary resource, etc..
Does your site at http://freespace.virgin.net/annemarie.shuttle/ offer
me a portal for researching this family? If it does, I would gladly
contribute what I have of the Claydons' "history" after they left
England. I have yet to snoop, but shall later this evening...it is about
7:40 p.m. here, just now...and I haven't had me supper yet...darn
computer! can't get away from it.
If you are aware of anyone, connected to them near you, I should like to
connect with them...as we would be kinfolk!
I know nothing of Loise or John Claydon. They may not have come here, or
our records may be deficient in identifying them. I have not got into
that line very far at present. Too busy on other lines.
Of course, I would also like to see where the Woodworth line goes as
well, in due course. It appears as if it might be Woodward, Woodword, or
Woodworth...what is your opinion. We have Woodworth, over here.

Very kind regards, Al Dempster, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada
