Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Dear Listers,
I have just received a request from the Claiborne Society in the USA,
suggesting that I take part in their Y-DNA Study in order to follow up
any relationship between the different spellings of the Clayburn and
variant names Claiborne - Cliborn - Clibborn - Cleburne lines that the
Claiborne Society has started.
http://www.claiborneclan.org/
The Cliborne Society has voted to fund eight donors to start a database
for comparison of these four lines and for others to check against. So
far six donors have been tested - two Cliborns, two Claibornes, one
Clibborn and one [?] who paid for his own test and now knows how to
clean up the documentation on his ancestors. This week we have
identified a Cleburne donor, a direct line back to
Cliburn, Westmoreland and hopefully will have his results back by the
end of March.
The research tests are being undertaken by the Family Tree DNA company
in Houston, Texas.
http://www.familytreedna.com/
This is a reputable company who are undertaking research into many
family names, if you look at Chris Pomery's site at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/genetics1a.html
Chris lists all those family groups known to be undertaking this DNA
research.
Alan Savin has studied this research, his book explores the potential
use of DNA for family history research, details are shown at:
http://www.savin.org/dna/dna-book.html
Alan advises me that he knows the company and its CEO, Bennett Greenspan
very well. Alan has no hesitation in confirming that they are a top
class company, with excellent customer service.
For more information on this study you can contact Dr. Alex Waldrop,
the present Research Chairman for the Claiborne Society and the Director
of the DNA Study.
