Janis,
I suspect this man may be Eleazor Clay, b. ca 1844-46) son of John
Gardner Clay & Margaret Miller, & grandson of Jeremiah Walker Clay. He
is on the census in 1850 (Eleazor Clay) & 1860 (as E. Clay) then I have
no trace of him.

OK, Shirley, I just reread your message. And, I did find John Gardner Clay
in our database. Just no family with him.
My bad.

Shirley,
I wondered what the relationship is, if any, between the two Ele* Clay
males.
Eleazor, 6, son of Margaret and John, is living in family number 877, p 127,
of the 1850 census. (I recall now, this is the family with the "extra" John
Clay, 11, b Missouri, with them).
Eleazor, 26, son of Nancy, (who was born in Pennsylvania), is family 881.
[Year: 1850; Census Place: District 58, Moniteau, Missouri; Roll: M432_407;
Page: 64A; Image: 133.]
The second is the one I found that was in Pilot's Grove in 1870, was still
there in 1900, died in 1905. He was married in 1900 to a Permella
(Permelia?) Buried in Green Grove Cemetery, Latham, Moniteau County.
According to that entry on findagrave, she was the dau of Robert Moore and
Mary S Powell.
Since his father was born in Virginia, I suspected there is a relationship.
In our database, we have the elder of the two listed as a son of Jeremiah
Walker Clay, but we don't have anything on the father of the younger Clay.
Ideas?
Pat

Janis
Not easy to find.
I did find an Elizzar Clay (Eleazar) who was born ca 1848, living in Putnam
county in 1860.
I do not find this "Eli" in 1870, anywhere.
There was also an Eliazar Clay, 41, drafted from Moniteau County, "Pilas
Grove"??? 1863-1865.

Bureau (Civil War), Record Group 110. National Archives at Washington D.C.]
This Eleazor Clay in 1860, was living in Twp 44 Range 16, Moniteau MO, Post
Office, California. He was 38, born in Missouri. (ca 1822)
There is an Eleazor, 25, in 1850, in Moniteau, mother is Nancy, 60. Eleazor
was born in Missouri, Nancy was born in Tennessee. They are near neighbors
to John Clay, 40, b Missouri, and his family, which also includes an
Eleazor.
Well, forget that one, he was in Pilot's Grove in 1870. And, he died in
1905.
Hmmm, have to keep on looking.
