I am relatively new to this discussion group, and would very much like
access to these already gathered records. Are they available online
somewhere? I have only gone back into the 1800's and don't believe in
reinventing a wheel already built.

I am talking about the early period of Surry County in the 1600's, when the
settlers living there all came from England. The County of Surry was named
for the English County of Surrey. County court records begin with 1652,
when Surry was formed from the part of James City County that lay southwest
of the James River. Other records before 1652 are available, however. The
county records are substantially complete.

I would be very interesting in knowing what you found, particularly where
they originated from and the initial descendant in the US.

I am preparing a presentation on Surry County, VA for a genealogy meeting to be held Dec 13. In doing so, I found it interesting to work on a surname of mine to determine resources available there. I found some interesting stuff at the library. [I live in North Carolina].
Would anyone like to discuss the CLAY family in Surry?
Please give me your thoughts on the relationship between them and the CLAY in Charles City/Prince George County VA.
