> The Clay Research Group and The Clay Y-DNA Project are seeking males with
> the Clay surname to participate in our research project. The research group
> was formed in the fall of 2005 and had our first research trip to Washington,
> DC and Virginia for 2 weeks in June 2006.
We are focusing on John Clay at present. A considerable body of
genealogical
> research has been done over the years to tie the various Clay lines back
> to JOHN CLAY, the immigrant, who landed in Jamestown in 1612/1613. That
> genealogical research has yielded important information that we now seek to verify
> by comparing the Y-DNA markers of participants in our studies. Although
> our Y-DNA research is in its infancy, we have already achieved resounding
> success. For instance, Henry Clay, the grandson of JOHN CLAY and husband of
> Mary Mitchell, named four sons in his will: William, Charles, Henry, and John.
> We have participants who have lineage paper trails to sons William, Charles,
> and Henry, and their Y-DNA markers match. Those matches greatly increases
> the credibility of the paper trails of those lineages. We would like very
> much to have participants from descendants of the fourth son, John, named in
> Henry Clay's will. This is especially important because the Immortal Henry
> Clay, the Statesman, descended from Henry Clay's son John.
>
> Also Henry Clay, the grandson of JOHN CLAY the immigrant, had three
> brothers: Thomas, Charles, and John. While, as noted above, descendants from
> Henry have participated in the Y-DNA project with matches, we do not have
> participants from Thomas, Charles and John. We would like very much to enlist
> the participation of descendants from the three brothers of Henry.
>
> By targeting the descendants of the above John Clay ancestors we do not
> signal that we value the participation of descendants from other Clay
> ancestors any less. We are also looking for male descendants from Aaron Clay from
> Berks County, Pennsylvania and David Clay from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
> In addition, we are searching for male descendants of the uncles and/or
> brothers of General Lucius Clay in Georgia, Percival Clay and David Clay from NC
> and Georgia.
> We encourage all male Clay descendants to participate. The Clay
> Research Group proposes to assist all participants and non-participants to
> establish paper trails to their Clay ancestors by providing information and by
> providing educational assistance. In the future, it is our intent to place this
> research at the Library of Virginia and the Public Records Office, Kew,
> Richmond, Surrey, England. We already have access to a few researchers in the
> area that are willing to help us with our search.
> Please contact Greg Hatcher (haccher(a)bellsouth.net), or Nancy
> Acord-Greathouse (jntgreatho(a)aol.com) or the administrator of this list for further
> information on participating in the Clay Research Group and Clay Y -DNA Project.

Karen-
Karen does this society include the Cherokee Clay family? My grandfather is
Henry Clay, son of Robert and Susie (Christie) Clay and grandson of Henry
Clay of Tennesse. If the newsletter would have info on this Clay line, I'd
love to receive a copy and join the society. I might not get to the gatherings
as I'm on an islandon the Aleutian Chain in Alaska. Very expensive to
travel !

Karen,
I would like to remain on the list for newsletters - they are really
informative. I didn't make it this year to the gathering although I wanted to come.
Time has slipped by and I haven't renewed my membership, but will do so.
I would also like to help in any way I can on committees that need help if
there is anything I can do from here in Hawaii.
Thanks for all your hard work!

Karen,
I'm not sure if I am still a member of the Clay society since I didn't
make it to the family gathering this year. If I wasn't on the mailing list I
would like a copy of the newsletter, please.
Thank you,

For those of you who might like more information on the Clay Family Society,
I have six issues of the September issue of "Pieces of Clay", which is the
newsletter for the society. I would be happy to send them to the first six
people who send me a mailing address. Unfortunately I can only send to
people living in the US.
Our newsletter this month features information on our next gathering which
is going to be in Huntsville, Alabama 2008; a descendancy on Jonas Clay;
some headstone photo's that we are looking for family information on; and an
article on DNA & Genealogy!
We've launched a two new committee's, one on Clay cemetery preservation and
the other to start documenting lineages for the society archives and
publication in a journal. Both committee's are looking for members who
would be willing to sign up and get your hands full of CLAY!
Be sure to send me an address if you would like one of those SIX
newsletters!

Hi Karen:
I signed up for membership in the society this summer, but I have not
received anything on it yet. No newsletter yet for Sept. I am not sure I
am on the address list yet. Have others received theirs?
Just in case, if I don't receive a copy of the newsletter, could you save
me one?
