To all Clay Members:
I'm certain that some of you have no idea what is going on with some of the
recent posts. If anyone has any questions my suggestion is to contact one of
the Board members, the Chairperson of the nominating Com. or Lindsay Apple who
is the Chairperson of the Clay Family Society.
This Board is supposed to be for questions and information that pertains to
all members on this list.
I think this is a great way to solicit any male that has the surname of Clay
to participate in the DNA study but other matters that pertain to the Clay
Family Society should not be discussed on this Board. People that do not belong
have no idea what is happening and in some way may influence them that they
may not want to know.
Sincerely,
Linda Cheeks Pittano
Nancy,
Who is we? Also you need to voice support for Greg on the floor during
the Clay Family Gathering. The nominating committee will be asking for
nominations from the floor at that time.
See you in June!

Subject: [CLAY] John Clay in Surry Co. Va/ Research
Does anyone have any information of John Clay who was in Surry County in
the 1600's? We are looking for males who have retained the Clay surname
from
this family and/or any Clay family who will participate in the Clay Y-DNA
Project.
We are also planning a research trip prior to the Clay Family Gathering
starting on June 13, 2006, in Washington, DC and moving to the Library of
Virginia starting on June 19, 2006. Those that are interested in joining us
on
all or part of the trip, please contact me at my e-mail address:
jntgreatho(a)aol.com.
I also agree with Baker Clay and Faye Bishop and will be supporting
Greg
Hatcher for Chairman of the Clay Family Society.
Thanks,
Nancy

I have been trying to find my registration form. I am still planning to come
along with my parents. I plan to give a report on the DNA project. I will
try to handle it this weekend. I guess that everyone has forgotten about
Hurricane Katrina and the devastation in the Gulf Coast region.
Greg
No one has forgotten about Katrina or the devestation, my son spent all of
his vacation time there, probally for a couple years to come, Katrina is not
something that anyone can forget.
My son learned that an alligator can run over 30 miles an hour, he also
learned very quickly that an alligator can NOT zig zag. My son learned to zig zag.
He lived in a tent that had to be de-alligatorized several times, by the
National Guard when he went down to fight fires all over the state. He spent 12 hrs
a day fighting fires, but he spent the rest of the time making friends, their
tent had a porch and rocking chairs,, they were called the Red Neck Bunch,
everyone gathered there after the showers, to relax, to rock and to get ready
for the next day of hell. No, I don't think that anyone will every forget
Katrina, none that had to experience, live through her or hear on the news would
want anything like that to happen again, how could anyone forget Katrina?
I don't think that there is one person in our organization that has not given
money, clothing, furniture, food, water, hammer help, what ever our community
has asked for, even opening their homes for shelter, we are a pretty
community concerned group. ( Habitat for Humanity ROCKS!!!!!) (WSLS Roanoke ROCKS) All
the trucking companies that carried the 3 houses built for FREE, to LA., all
of the heart that each and everyone showed and continues to show to help bring
the communitites back from Florida to California and up and down our
wonderfull Nation, Thank you Clay Family for everything that you have done. YOU
ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gynger Cook
Dear Clay Family Members,
I think Baker (Bob) Clay has brought up a very good point. I second the
motion that Greg Hatcher should and deserves to be elevated to the position
of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Clay Family Gathering.
Sincerely, Fay Bishop
Gynger and All:
I would be willing to serve as President for the next term if my name is put
forward and the group so votes. I don't recall having been asked, but with
everything going on with Hurricane Katrina relief for the past six months
it's possible I missed an email or two -- and if anyone tried to call my
house to ask, they wouldn't have found me at home. My commitment to Habitat
for Humanity Operation Home Delivery and Hurricane Katrina relief basically
ends in August, so I would be free to serve the society in this capacity.
I'm sure that whoever the society chooses to elect as the next president
will do a great job.
Regard,
Greg
If I remember correctly Greg was nominated by the nomination committee, tho I
may be wrong, and declined because of other commitments. Does anyone know
Greg's answer?
Baker,
As a member of the nominating committee, I wish you had contacted the
committee while we were doing our deliberations. Nominations can of
course be made from the floor, but my experience in other groups is that
it sometimes causes membership splits that can take time to heal.

Hi everyone!
I wanted to write and remind everyone that if you haven't yet signed up
for the 2006 CLAY FAMILY GATHERING there's no time like NOW.
The Gathering this year is in Chester Virginia June 23, 24, 25. You can
get the registration form at:
http://www.clayfamilysociety.com/CFG%2006.htm
Be sure to get the form for the Chester Gathering, not the one in Nebraska.
Since many of the people on this list are Clay Family Society members I
thought I would post some thoughts about the current board and the upcoming
elections. If you don't care about this please just use your delete key!
As many of you know this Gathering will be the place for our elections for
the next two years. I thought I would just put my thoughts on "paper" about
the current board members and all their hard work. But without them this
society would not be here. When NO ONE else would serve these folks stepped
up and took on the ultimate task! Making this little group into an actual
Society! And what a job they did! We owe them our thanks!
This Gathering will mark the end of the current reign as "director" for
Lindsay Apple. What a great guy - a real leader. With Lindsay at the helm
our organization has grown and gotten past a lot of the snags that new
societies face. What a debt of gratitude we owe him, not even being a Clay
descendant yet putting up with all the growing pains a new society deals
with.
Linda has done a fabulous job with this gathering, with all the planning
and hard work she has put into it. I'm sure a great time will be had by
all. This is the second Gathering Linda has put together and her drive and
commitment to the CLAY SOCIETY certainly deserves our thanks! Devotion like
Linda's certainly is hard to come by. The Clay Family Society has no better
friend than Linda. I can see why rumors of her running for "director" are
everywhere! A true leader who gets the job done REGARDLESS!
Connie Collins at membership - what a job to keep up with it all! Gynger
Cook as treasurer - On top of all her other responsibilities she also does
quilting and other goodies for the Gathering! Greg for running our DNA
project - what more can I say! Shirley Wilcox - a calming presence who
keeps all of our meetings on an even keel with her wisdom and calmness.
All of these great members who serve our Clay Family Society with so much
dedication and commitment. Come on out to the Clay family Gathering 2006
and share your appreciation with them. I know they would love to hear from
you! When no one else would step up to the plate and take an office these
folks stepped up, took the office and made a difference! Where would our
society be without them?
Many of you who are with the Clay Family Society will notice that your
newsletter came early. Normally it comes out the first of the month but due
to the gathering I wanted to make sure you had it in time to get the
registration form if needed, the agenda and other reminders. I don't know
for sure what the plans are for publications after the 2006 Gathering, but
hopefully the schedule in place will remain. I've enjoyed putting the
newsletter together even though I couldn't get a lot of submissions.
I do have some extra copies of the June newsletters that just came out if
anyone here in the "states" would like a copy. If you would like a copy
drop me a line with your postal address and I'll drop one in the mail right
away for you.
Thanks and we hope to see you at Chester Virginia June 23,24,25
