Greetings, all~
As a stamp collector & a member of the Clay digest, I wanted to pass on
some info. The Henry Clay Philatelic Society is offering a pictorial cancel
this month...better hurry if you want one! Simply stamp & address an envelope
to yourself & enclose it into a bigger envelope & send it to:
Henry Clay Philatelic Society
LEXINGTON STAMP SHOW STATION
POSTMASTER
PO BOX 9998
LEXINGTON KY 40505-9998
In a few weeks, you will receive the envelope you addressed to yourself with
a cool, pictorial cancel. I'm unaware of what this year's is but they've
always been neat.

I am searching for information on John Clay, b. Dec 1872 Wayne Co, MO. He
is found on the 1900 census in Olive Hill, Carter Co, KY. In 1900 he was
widowed with 5 sons: Harry, age 7; Charles,5; Cecil, 4; Fred, 3 and
Russell,1. Also need information on his wife who must have died 1899-1900
in Carter Co. John may have died before the 1910 census.
Are there Carter Co. vital statistics before the KY Death Index began in
1911 or marriage/birth records where I might find this family?
I appreciate any help.
Barbara Clay Pasch
This is not the first time I have posted this to the list. I have the
proverbial "Brick Wall" in Lucy and Emily.
Here's what I have found:
1840 Census, Russell Co., VA
Lucy Clay: 1 male 15 t0 20, 2 females 10 to 15, 1 female 40 to 50, b. NC
1850 Census, Russell Co., VA
Clay Lucy, age 60, b. NC
Emily, age 24, b. NC
George W. H., age 4, b. VA
Harmon, age 2, b. VA
1860 Census, Russell Co., VA
Clay Emily, age 32, seamstress, b. NC
George, age 13, b. VA
Harmon, age 12, b. VA
Jackson, age 9, b. VA
Charles Quincy, age 5, b. VA
Elbert S., age 2, b. VA
1870 Census, Russell Co., VA
Clay Harmon, M, M, age 21, farm laborer, b. VA
Clay George, M, W, age 23, farmer, b. VA
Alice, F, W, age 21, b. VA
Rose, F, W, age 7/12, b. VA
Cannot find Emily, Jackson, Charles Q., or Elbert S. in 1870.
1880 Census, Wise Co., VA
Clay Emily F, W, age 52, Wd, keeping house, b. NC, parents b. NC
Elbert, M, W, age 20, S, farmer, b. VA, parents b. NC.
I have extensive data on the five boy's, but nothing on their mother Emily.
She was probably born ca 1827 in NC and married ca 1845? in VA. Nothing more
has been found on her after 1880. As for Lucy, she was born ca 1790 in NC and
died before 1860. I do not know if Lucy was Emily's mother/mother-in-law,
aunt, or what. Family stories say that "we came from the other side", a
reference to Henry Clay, the statesman, "Uncle Hank" was another reference used. My
father always said we were cousins of the great Henry. As we know, Henry's
father John only had one brother, Edward who moved from VA to Person Co., NC
where he died ca 1819. I've found very little on his and Magdalene Trabue's 10
children. Edward's daughters have been traced through their husbands, but have
found very little on his sons. Any help, how ever slight would be greatly
appreciated. Use the list or contact me at <_CClay23668(a)aol.com_

Henry Clay, born in Lebanon, PA in 1838. He was the son of Michael & Christina
(Chrtisiana?) Clay. John moved to the Amherst area of VA & married Martha
"Mattie" Cora Morris. They had Lee S. Clay & Cora Marie Clay. The family
