Dear Larry,
Re your interest in Mary Clay. My branch of the Clay
family hails from Wilson Co, Tenn. It is different
from your branch, which came from South Carolina,
while mine came from Lunenburg Co, Virginia. For
awhile I thought they were the same branch, but they
are not, although they both moved into adjacent Tenn
counties at about the same time. My ancestors in
about 1830-1840 consisted of Levi Clay and sons
Mitchell and Carlos. They show up in the Wilson Co
census records for 1840. I believe your ancestors
will show up around the same time. I can't remember
the first name of the oldest male ancestor, though.
Check the census records for the counties, they are
on-line, and I think you can track this down.
Hope this helps.

My ancestor was Elizabeth Clay, daughter of Jeremiah Clay of Moniteau County,
MO. Her identity and that of her father is proved in probate documents filed
in Cedar County, Missouri by her husband, James Miller.
Elizabeth has died in Moniteau County by June 1846 when her husband, James
Miller, filed a bond on behalf of their minor children. These probate documents
were filed in Cedar County where James and the children were then living.
Cedar County Probate Court requested the Moniteau County Probate Court to send
the documents filed on behalf of the Elizabeth Miller estate to Cedar County.
The documents sent to Cedar County included an inventory of Elizabeth's
portion of her father's estate.
Elizabeth Clay and James Miller were married in Cole County, MO in 1824.
Their children were Urial, William, Clement, Mariza, Sarilda, Nancy and James.
I have found several sources that list Jeremiah's ancestry that include a
list of his children. I would like to learn about Elizabeth's siblings,
particularly her brother, John who married Margaret Miller. I believe Margaret Miller
was a sister to my James Miller.
If there is anyone on this list who would like to share information on
Jeremiah's children with me, I would like to hear from you.

I am looking for any information on the Clays of Rutherford County or Wilson
County, TN. Mary Clay, my gg-grandmother, was born in about 1835 in
Rutherford County. She died in 1885 in Crawford County, AR. She married
George Daniel Cluck in Wilson County in 1853.
Thanks.

The Bourbon County Kentucky Board applied for and was granted $5,245 from
the State of Kentucky for clean up and restoration of the Clay-Bedford
family cemetery located near the Winchester Paris Road in Bourbon County.
The original stone cabin home of Dr. Clay, built in 1787, is adjacent to the
cemetery. The cemetery was established around 1827.
It is estimated that it will take $10,490 to do the cleaning and
restoration, and Bourbon County is requesting matching funds from Clay
family descendants and other interested persons.
If any of the Clay list members are interested in contributing please
