Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
It would seem that there may have been several Edwards. Here's what I've
found hoping it uncovers more information and may help those that are

Questions; Is the Edward in TN the husband of Polly or someone else? And, is
this same Edward the son of Edward Sr? Could the Edward in VA have also
married a "Polly"? The Edward in VA in 1810 had but a wife, no children.
Edward of 1820 had no children until after 1810. However, Edward in TN had
children before 1810.
There are hundres of questions I have about the Edward's but not now. If
anyone or has anyone figured this part of the family out? And, are we looking
at three different Edwards in VA and TN? Anyone have any ideas?

I ordered the book titled "The Descendants of John Thomas Clay" by Jeannie Watts on October 24, 2001 and enclosed a personal check. I still haven't received the book. I have e-mailed her three times and wrote to her on April 7, 2002 but still I receive no response. Has anyone received this book?

Nancy, I just ordered the Clay Settlement Book, also a James Cook book. He
was the first settler in Wyoming Co. I know there are many Cook/Acord
intermarriages, and probably others that I cannot remember right now, so I
ordered the book. $40 so it better be good. If not I will donate it to the
Burton.
Judy

William Mitchell Clay, son of Henry and Mary (Mitchell) Clay was named
for Mary's father, Capt. William Mitchell. Mary's mother was Elizabeth
Innis. William Mitchell Clay is sometimes shown as 'William Clay aka
William Mitchell Clay'. These 'aka's' run through the Clay line, i.e.
Samuel Clay aka Samuel Green Clay.
Mary Anne
No documentation that I know of, and it makes sense since William's
mother's maiden name was Mitchell. It's just that many times I see his
name as just William, and there doesn't seem to be as much solid
documentation about him as the generations who came before and after him.

This is my belief as well. William Mitchell Clay was the eldest son of
Henry Clay and Mary Mitchell (the original source of the Mitchell name).
William's son, Mitchell, married Phoebe Belcher. Mitchell Jr. was the son
of Mitchell and Phoebe.
I have never seen substantiated evidence that indicates otherwise.

It is my understanding that it is William Mitchell Clay, his son Mitchell
Clay, Sr., and his son Mitchell Clay, Jr., (the younger). Any documentation
that says that this is incorrect?
Nancy
I have seen it both ways, too. It is my impression that the elder was
William Mitchell and that the younger was Mitchell, but I can't put my
fingers on my source for this. I do note in Mr. Sanders book that the
genealogy supplied my Mr. McPherson lists the elder Clay as William Mitchell
Clay and the younger as Mitchell Clay. I'll keep looking and will post the
source when I locate it.
Deborah
Please don't feel that you should apologize.
Was William's name William Mitchell or just Mitchell? I have seen it both
ways.

I apologize for any inconsistency or confusion. Some people refer to William
Mitchell Clay as Mitchell Clay, Sr., and it was for this reason that I asked
if it was Mitchell, husband to Phoebe.
Deborah
P.S. While I'm at it, let me apologize to all for the typo in the Subject
line. Sorry, it has been a long week.
For anyone who is interested, I also have that book. I got it from
Amazon.com, so it's easy to buy it that way.
I also have Johnstons' History of the Middle New River Settlement. Would
be happy to email the picture of Mitchell's house. Incidentally, re the
other email about Mitchell, the Mitchell Clay who married Phoebe Belcher,
is Mitchell Clay, Sr., not Jr.
I am descended from Mitchell through their daughter, Patience, who
married George Chapman.

Hi folks.
I obtained this information from another Clay Cuzn who is a professor at
Concord College in Athens, W.Va and is on the committee for the Clay Memorial
Foundation of which Mr. Sanders is President. "His book is entitled "Clay
Family Settlement" (ISBN 0-9625273-8-6) and is published by MacClain Printing
Company (http://mcclainprinting.com/books.html).
MacClain has an online order form, also Mr. Sanders sells the books by mail
from his law office:
Sanders, Austin, Prudich and Flanigan
320 Courthouse Road
Princeton, West Virginia 24740
304-425-8125----Be sure to ask for Mr. Sanders Sr and not Jr."
Hope this helps.
CLAY CUZN,
Nancy
Happy to.
The title of the book is "Clay Family Settlement on the Bluestone River" by
William Sanders (with Courthouse Notes and Local Traditions by Darrell
McPherson). McClain Printing Company, P.O. Box 403, Parsons, WV 26287.
Published 1999. ISSB No. 0-9625273-8-6; Library of Congress Catalog No.
99-075661.
There is also a URL for McClain Printing: http://McClainPrinting.com
I just looked at this and it appears you can order on-line.
Deborah
Hi Deborah, I, too, would love to purchase a copy of the book. Rose

Hi Deborah - I read with interest, your post to the list. I am also a
descendant of Mitchell Clay and Phoebe Belcher, through their daughter
Rebecca who married George Pearis. I would be very interested in obtaining
a copy of that book, but I realize that it takes a lot of your time. Would
it be possible to get an address where I could write?
Thanks, Diane Bingham
